(SPEEDWAY 1)DEFENDING Champion Scott Nicholls says he will head to Wolverhampton on Monday with the intention of extending his amazing run of British Final success to eight wins.Nicholls broke Barry Briggs record when he took the crown at Monmore Green last season, and is optimistic of further successdespite home man Tai Woffinden being a strong favourite based on 2013 form.Nicholls said: Tai is in the best form that Ive ever seen him in, and its his home track so hell be going there full of confidence. But Ive said it many times before, it all comes down to that one raceyou can go through the card but it still comes down to the Final. Hell be up for it but theres a lot of other boys going for it, me included, so well have to see what happens on the night.(SPEEDWAY 2)BRITISH youngster Kyle Howarth came agonisingly close to a place in the World Under-21 Final after scoring eight points in his semi-final at Lonigo.Howarth finished fifth in the meeting from which only four riders qualified for the three-round Final, whereas the weekends other two semi-finals carried five qualifying places. It means Howarth will now be a reserve for the Final, whilst fellow countryman Adam Ellis scored five points including a race win at the same meeting. The Rawicz semi-final saw the elimination of Robert Branford (5) and Ashley Morris (1) in difficult conditions which forced the meeting abandonment after four rides each, Branford having won his first outing.(SPEEDWAY 3)EASTBOURNE produced a strong finish of their own to get revenge over Coventry for their defeat at Brandon with three points back on home territory. The Bees had reeled off four successive 5-1s to turn Fridays match in their favour, but the boot was on the other foot at Arlington as the Eagles took the final three races by a 14-4 margin to win 51-39.Skipper Cameron Woodward top-scored for the home side on 13+1 whilst opposite number Scott Nicholls led the way for Coventry on 12.A relieved Eastbourne boss Trevor Geer admitted the match had been too close for comfort, saying: I really thought it could have swung the other way but Bjarne (Pedersen) was immaculate and Cameron had the race of the season.(SPEEDWAY 4)BERWICKS team changes paid instant dividends with Edward Kennett and Paul Starke both to the fore in the Bandits 52-40 Premier League win over Leicester.Kennett picked himself up from a first ride spill to go unbeaten in his remaining three rides, whilst reserve Starke collected a stunning race win on his debut over Lions skipper Kauko Nieminen when the Finn was on a tactical ride.Berwick boss Ian Rae said: It's been a hectic and busy seven days, but the efforts have paid off admirably bringing in pure class like Eddie, and what about Paul too with that brilliant Heat 11 win? Having Eddie seems to have lifted the whole side, whose spirit was sky-high tonight. The lads have a belief in themselves again thats been missing of late, and that rubbed off onto the crowd too who were right up for some royal entertainment - thats exactly what they got and they responded with some superb support.(SPEEDWAY 5)RYE House were reduced to just five riders prior to their Knockout Cup quarter-final clash with Sheffieldbut still came away with a 52-38 first leg win.Already without the injured Jason Bunyan, the Rockets suffered the blow of having Tyson Nelson banned for the weekend by the FIM just prior to the meeting, having been unable to compete in his World Under-21 semi-final in Chervonograd due to visa issues.Rye boss John Sampford said: It was a truly remarkable achievement without a shadow of a doubt. Tyson has been riding like a nine-point man this season, so to lose his services less than an hour before the meeting was a huge blow. The rain didnt help either, and effectively took away our home track advantage. But the boys dug deep. They all rode their guts out, especially Jason (Garrity) and Kasper (Lykke). It was just a superb effort all-round.(FIXTURES)SUNDAY MAY 12:PREMIER LEAGUE: Glasgow v Scunthorpe 3pm, Leicester v Ipswich 6pmLEAGUE CUP: Newcastle v Redcar 6.30NATIONAL TROPHY: Mildenhall v Buxton 4.30, Stoke v Kent 6pmMONDAY MAY 13:BRITISH FINAL: Wolverhampton 7.30NATIONAL TROPHY: Kent v Isle of Wight 6.30TUESDAY MAY 14:NATIONAL TROPHY: Isle of Wight v Mildenhall 7pmWEDNESDAY MAY 15:SKY SPORTS ELITE LEAGUE: Kings Lynn v Poole 7.30
