Andy Scott returned home to take a nostalgic victory in a guest appearance in the MSA Monster Energy British Rallycross Championship round at Knockhill.
Enjoying a four-week break in his FIA European Rallycross Championship commitments as Albatec Racing Team Principal and driver, Scott powered his original race-winning Peugeot 306 to overall glory at the track on which he clinched his first ever Supercar win in 2010.Marking his one and only appearance of the year on Scottish soil, the 2011 MSA British Rallycross Vice-Champion teamed up with Tony Bardy Motorsport to contest the third round of the series, and joined son Marc on the victory podium, who sealed a hat-trick of wins in the RX150 championship.
Heading straight to Knockhill from a successful shakedown of his new Albatec Peugeot 208 in which he will contest the remaining seven rounds of the re-branded RallycrossRX, Scott made the most of the conditions to quickly establish himself among the pacesetters, with the second fastest time in practice.Joining a legion of family and friends at the circuit located just over 100 miles away from his Dumfries home Scott powered his way to heat victory, second and fourth places to earn himself a place in the final.
In varying weather conditions throughout the day Scott proved the master of all, just missing out on a second heat win by half a car's length.Holding off a strong challenge from Julian Godfrey and Pat Doran, Scott clinched a last gasp victory in the four-lap final, repeating the form that netted outright victory and the Rallycross Superprix title there three years ago.Now established as one of Europes top Supercar racers, Scott will undergo testing next week ahead of the third round of RallycrossRX over the weekend of 25/26 May, where he rejoins team-mate Michal De Keersmaecker and the rest of the European contingent at Nyird, in Hungary.Andy Scott Car #26:I have to say this was one of the best weekends of my short career, and one of the most nostalgic. To be reunited with the car I drove to my first overall Supercar victory, at the track on which I won and call home is a great boost ahead of the next event, the third round of RallycrossRX in Hungary.
With so much support from family and friends, it was an amazing atmosphere and even the weather couldnt dampen my spirits right now. To bring the 306 out of mothballs after a couple of years action, to take a repeat win at my home event, is testimony to what a fantastic car the Peugeot 306 is. Coupled with the great team we had here this weekend, who did a remarkable job to bring it all together at such short notice, well I couldnt be happier for them. Now though we get back to the serious business of continuing our bid for FIA European Rallycross Championship honours in Hungary and the remaining rounds of RallycrossRX, where myself and Michal will field the teams two Albatec Peugeot 208s.
