KYLE Howarth will captain the Great Britain team in the World Under-21 Team Cup semi-final at Gdansk next weekend.
Howarth will be joined by Adam Ellis, Ashley Morris and Tom Perry at the May 25 event when GB face hosts Poland, Sweden and Russia.
Co-boss Phil Morris said: “We’re under no illusions that it’s going to be a tough event, but we’ve gone for a young line-up who will be determined to give it their best shot.
“Kyle came within a whisker of qualifying for the individual World Under-21 Final, and although Tom hasn’t quite been in top form so far this season we feel the big track should suit him. Both Ashley and Adam have had some excellent scores in the Premier League lately, Ashley scored 15 for Workington a couple of weekends ago, so that was our thinking there.”

LAKESIDE co-promoter Jon Cook has given his backing to reserve Robert Mear who came back from a difficult spell to score heavily in the Hammers’ recent home win over Peterborough.
Mear struggled in away matches at Coventry and Poole last week but responded with double-figures against the Panthers at Purfleet.
Cook said: “I have to single out Rob for particular praise as he really was on the floor when we spoke on Thursday having been well off the pace all week. His performance on Friday was a pure match winner’s and to be able to turn that around within 48 hours showed real dedication.
“We will need more rides like that on Friday as the Birmingham line-up is stuffed full of riders that go well at our Raceway.”

EDINBURGH have made a team change with Mitchell Davey joining the club to replace Marcel Helfer.
Davey became available after completing a short-term deal wit Redcar, and will make his Monarchs debut against Plymouth on Friday.
Edinburgh director Mike Hunter said: “It’s true to say that Mitchell doesn’t have a great Armadale record from his Glasgow days but he is very keen to improve it, and has practised in our second halves earlier in the season. He last rode in a full meeting at Matthew Wethers’ Testimonial last August.
“We wish Marcel well for the future. We all know that he sometimes had some terrific rides, including a win at Berwick earlier in the season, but he also struggled badly at times. He is disappointed but accepts he hasn’t been scoring well.”

SHEFFIELD skipper Simon Stead is expected to be out of action for a fortnight having suffered a broken hand in Poland at the weekend.
The Tigers have booked Craig Cook, who won the PLRC at Owlerton last season, to guest in Thursday’s vital KO Cup second-leg tie against Rye House in which they will look to pull back a 14-point deficit.
Sheffield co-boss David Hoggart said: “Craig is in sensational form and on Monday he was very close to getting on the podium at the British Final. He was really keen to help us out and I couldn’t think of a better man to replace our own excellent No.1.
“Rye House have got a really solid number one, decent reserves and then (Jason) Garrity and (Anders) Mellgren are both improving rapidly so it’s going to be very tough. Our aim obviously is to win by 15 or more, it has to be, but it’s a mountain to climb.”
