NEWCASTLE overcame the absence of Ludvig Lindgren to take maximum points from a spectacular televised Premier League clash at Berwick on Tuesday. Richie Worrall and Stuart Robson secured a 49-41 victory with a last-heat 5-1 over Edward Kennett and Kozza Smith in front of a big crowd at Shielfield Park, with Christian Henry and Lewis Kerr also in double-figures for the Diamonds. Newcastle boss George English said: “We had a good team talk before this meeting and even without Ludvig we were convinced we could get something out of this meeting. “But we reckoned on one league point and never believed we could get all four – which we did – and that was stunning as we really dug deep and showed how determined we were to get a result.”

PLYMOUTH co-promoter Ashley Taylor says the club will keep faith with their current line-up for their next Premier League fixtures against Leicester. The Devils were beaten at home by Edinburgh last weekend, sparking talk of changes, but the same riders will be deployed at the St Boniface Arena on Friday. Taylor said: “We have a window of opportunity next week when we have a blank Friday at home because of the Premier Pairs at Somerset on May 31. “We will be taking a close look at things, especially with the new averages coming into force for the start of June, and want to make sure that any changes we make are the right ones for the Plymouth team.”

SHEFFIELD have reduced admission prices for the Ozchem Trophy clash with National League Dudley at Owlerton on Thursday. The meeting is being held in memory of Darren Boocock, a great friend of the Tigers, who passed away in 2008, and adult admission is down to £12 with concessions at £10. Sheffield co-boss David Hoggart said: “This promises to be a great night of racing and we’re really looking forward to it. “We’ve reduced admission prices in the hope people will come along for a thoroughly enjoyable night out.”

DUDLEY opened their National League programme with a 56-36 win over a depleted King’s Lynn side at Monmore Green. Lewis Blackbird scored a 15-point maximum for the Heathens with Gareth Isherwood dropping just one point from five rides, whilst Lewis Rose (14+1) impressed for the Young Stars. The home side saw Nathan Greaves crash out in his second ride, suffering a hand injury. Dudley boss Will Pottinger said: “Overall I suppose you look at the level of the victory and you have to be happy, but it was a bit too close for comfort at times during the meeting. “There are definitely things to work on, but we are pleased to take all three points in the end.”

MILDENHALL lost Jon Armstrong with a knee injury during their National Trophy defeat at the Isle of Wight, as the Islanders extended their lead at the top of the table. The Fen Tigers are hopeful Armstrong will be fit for their trip to Stoke on Saturday, but went down 58-34 on the Island with Adam Ellis scoring a maximum for the home side. Mildenhall chairman Kevin Jolly said: “He tweaked it in his first ride and, although he went out again, there was no way he could continue after that. Armo says he’ll be fit again by the weekend, but we’ll have to wait and see how he is over the next few days. “It was justone of those nights where we struggled. Fair play to the Isle of Wight, they thoroughly deserved the win.”
