Championship leader Magnussen ready for Monaco FR3.5 challenge

anish ace ready to make amends in Monaco in 2013

McLaren Young Driver Development Program member Kevin Magnussen heads to this weekends third round of the 2013 Formula Renault 3.5 championship in Monaco as the championship leader.

With two runner up finishes in Monza and a win at Motorland Aragon to his credit, the Danish racer holds a four point lead over fellow McLaren-backed driver, Stoffel Vandoorne.

This weekend will be a busy event for Magnussen who is also on standby for McLaren as the teams Formula 1 reserve driver for the historic event in the Mediterranean principality.

However, unlike weekends when he has been on duty for McLaren previously, Magnussen will be left to concentrate on extending his title lead rather than taking part in team debriefs in the F1 paddock.

The Danish driver will be looking to make amends this year after being forced out on lap one after contact at the first turn in 2012.

This Monaco weekend is unique for the World Series by Renault championship with only a single race staged for the Formula Renault 3.5 class on Sunday morning - the final event prior to the F1 race on Sunday.

Magnussen was sixth fastest aboard his DAMS No.20 Formula Renault 3.5 in the opening practice session staged on Thursday morning - stopping the clocks at 1m25.060s and completing 23 laps.

Teams and drivers now dont return to the track unti Saturday morning for qualifying (in two groups) from 9:00am.

Sundays race (44 minutes plus 1 lap)goes green at 11:10am and can be seen live on Eurosport.
