Audi travels to Styria DTM with tailwind

Mike Rockenfeller leads the standings before the third DTM round Audi has been unbeaten on the new track at SpielbergWill the Red Bull Ring give Mattias Ekstrom and Jamie Green wings?

With the tailwind of a commanding victory at Brands Hatch, the Audi squad is traveling to the third round of the DTM season (June 12) at Spielberg (Austria). Audi driver Mike Rockenfeller, after his success in England, will arrive at the Red Bull Ring as the leader of the standings. Ever since the new circuit was re-opened two years ago, Audi has won all races here. First victory in the second racethe Audi RS 5 DTM passed its baptism by fire at Brands Hatch. In the third round at Spielberg, the Audi squad is aiming to up the ante. Styria is a good track for the brand from Ingolstadt. In both races since the track was re-opened, an Audi driver took the top spot on the podium. In 2011, it was Martin Tomczyk on his way to the title win and last year Edoardo Mortara on clinching his first ever DTM victory. From the island to the Alps: The demands made on the drivers and the cars could hardly be any more different. With a distance of 4.326 kilometers the Red Bull Ring is one of the longest tracks on the DTM calendar and due to its large vertical differences has unique characteristics. While Brands Hatch was a downforce track, Spielberg primarily calls for aerodynamic efficiency. The fans at the race track and in front of their TV sets can look forward to particularly spectacular use of the Drag Reduction System (DRS) that allows the rear wing angle to be flattened by depressing a button on the steering wheel. No less than three straights followed by narrow turns at Spielberg are almost ideally suited for using the system, which gives the pursuer a speed advantage and thus makes overtaking easier. Gripping maneuvers are guaranteed.A high-caliber program is awaiting all sports fans on Das Erste on the first weekend in June: The DTM qualifying session on Saturday, June 1, will only be held at 17:50 and thus directly before the DFB Cup final. The race on Sunday will start at 13:30 as usual. ARD, as always, will be airing live coverage on both days on Das Erste. Tickets for all DTM races of the 2013 season are available at www.audi-motorsport.com/dtm.Quotes by the officialsDieter Gass (Head of DTM):Weve got fond memories of Spielberg because we were very strong there in the past two years. Especially for Edoardo (Mortara) this probably means additional motivation. Weve slightly modified our car since 2012, so were optimistic that well be showing a good performance again.

Hans-Jurgen Abt (Team Director Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline): Audi won at Spielberg last year, Rocky was victorious most recently at Brands Hatch. That shows whats possible with our car. Our whole squad will be starting with high concentration and perfect preparation. And who knows: Maybe Red Bull will actually be giving our two Red Bull racers wings

Ernst Moser (Team Director Audi Sport Team Phoenix): Last year, Edoardo (Mortara) won. Of course wed like to repeat this Audi success from last yearalbeit preferably with Rocky so that we can continue to be in contention as front runners in the Championship.

Arno Zensen (Team Director Audi Sport Team Rosberg): At Spielberg, we won our first DTM race, so our memories are positive and were looking forward to the race with eager anticipation. Last year, the tables turned in favor of our team in AustriaIm proceeding from the assumption that this will be the case again this year.Facts and quotes by the Audi driversFilipe Albuquerque (27/P), Audi Financial Services RS 5 DTM #6 (Audi Sport Team Rosberg) With eighth place last year, was one of the five Audi drivers in the top ten After two time penalties, finished the race at Brands Hatch in 17th placeFor me, the race at Spielberg will be the right start start into the 2013 DTM season because at Hockenheim and Brands Hatch some things didnt work perfectly. That is why Im looking forward to Austria: My team has won there before and I was fast there last year as well.Mattias Ekstrom (34/S), Red Bull Audi RS 5 DTM #11 (Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline) Like Timo Scheider, ran at Spielberg back in the years from 2001 to 2003 Also knows the track at Spielberg from several events with partner Red BullMy race here at Spielberg was very good last year toobut, unfortunately, I still barely missed a position on the podium. Our speed at Brands Hatch was good. This time, Im wishing for a weekend without any kind of incidents. The track suits me, so a place at the very front has to be the aim.Jamie Green (30/GB), Red Bull Audi RS 5 DTM #12 (Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline) Is starting at the Red Bull Ring as a Red Bull racer for the first time After Edoardo Mortara, has the second-best Spielberg tally of all Audi driversAudi won there in both of the past two years. Thats definitely a good starting base. I was sixth once and fifth once, so Ive still got some room to move upward. Spielberg is a superb track in unusual surroundings: mountains, fields and cows directly alongside the trackthats a great atmosphere for me.Miguel Molina (24/E), Audi RS 5 DTM #20 (Audi Sport Team Phoenix) On his RS 5 DTM is advertising the German soccer cup final at Spielberg At Brands Hatch, missed a finish in the points by just half a secondI really like the Red Bull Ring. Were improving from race to race and have to keep up our efforts of working hard on our performance. Edo (Mortara) showed whats possible last year. Im looking forward to the race.Edoardo Mortara (26/F/I), Playboy Audi RS 5 DTM #5 (Audi Sport Team Rosberg) In 2012, won his first DTM race at Spielberg Experienced the worst start of the season in his still young DTM careerWe really had two weekends to forget. But I know exactly that Ive got a good team and a good carall we need now is a race without incidents. I see no reason why we shouldnt manage this at Spielberg. I took my first ever DTM race win there, so Ive got a special relationship with this track.Mike Rockenfeller (29/D), Schaeffler Audi RS 5 DTM #19 (Audi Sport Team Phoenix) Travels to a DTM race as the leader of the standings for the first time in his career After Brands Hatch, went on to contest the 24-hour race at the NrburgringSpielberg is a very nice track that Im really looking forward to. Last year, we had a thrilling race there with many overtaking maneuvers. Now, with the DRS and the option tires, therell probably be even more action. Obviously, after the success at Brands Hatch, I can hardly wait to go out again and battle for the next victory.Timo Scheider (34/D), AUTO TEST Audi RS 5 DTM #23 (Audi Sport Team Abt) Has been living in Lochau at Lake Constance in Austria for many years Is ambassador of the Wings for Life foundation initiated by Red BullWith Austria being my adopted country, Spielberg is a kind of second home race for me that Im very much looking forward to. Last year was an action-packed experience for me. After body contact on the starting lap, I was running in last place and then, with a recovery and the fastest race lap, moved forward to sixth. The first two rounds this year have shown me that were in contentionnow its time for me to finally clinch a really good result.Adrien Tambay (22/F), Audi ultra RS 5 DTM #24 (Audi Sport Team Abt) Moved to the Austrian town of Lochau at Lake Constance before the season As of Spielberg, the graphics on his Audi RS 5 DTM are advertising Audi ultra againIve been living in Austria since this spring, so Spielberg is my home race. The round at Brands Hatch was already a clear improvement for me compared to Hockenheimthats exactly where Id like to continue now. That Edo (Mortara) won here last year gives all of us an extra dose of motivation. The Audi drivers in the 2013 DTMFilipe Albuquerque (P): * June 13, 1985 in Coimbra (P); residence: Coimbra (P); single (partner Joana); height: 1.74 m; weight: 65 kg; Audi driver since 2011; DTM races: 22; pole positions: 0; victories: 0 (best result: 2nd place); fastest laps: 0; points: 35; DTM titles: 0; best result DTM Spielberg: 8Mattias Ekstrm (S): * July 14, 1978 in Falun (S); residence: Salenstein (CH); single (partner Heidi), one son (Mats); one daughter (Hanna); height: 1.83 m; weight: 79 kg; Audi driver since 1999; DTM races: 126; pole positions: 19; victories: 17; fastest laps: 12; points: 621; DTM titles: 2 (2004, 2007); best result DTM Spielberg: 4Jamie Green (GB): * June 14, 1982 in Leicester (GB); residence: Monaco (MC); married to Ginny, two sons (Zachary and William); height: 1.78 m; weight: 70 kg; Audi driver since 2013; DTM races: 85; pole positions: 6; victories: 8; fastest laps: 13; points: 361.5; DTM titles: 0; best result DTM Spielberg: 5Miguel Molina (E): * February 17, 1989 in Barcelona (E); residence: Lloret de Mar (E); single; height: 1.75 m; weight: 64 kg; Audi driver since 2010; DTM races: 33; pole positions: 2; victories: 0 (best result: 3rd place); fastest laps: 1; points: 34; DTM titles: 0; best result, DTM Spielberg: 11Edoardo Mortara (I/F): * Jan 12, 1987 in Geneva (CH); residence: Geneva (CH); engaged; height: 1.82 m; weight: 75 kg; Audi driver since 2011; DTM races: 22; pole positions: 1; victories: 2; fastest laps: 0; points: 103; DTM titles: 0; best result DTM Spielberg: 1Mike Rockenfeller (D): * Oct 31, 1983 in Neuwied (D); residence: Landschlacht (CH); single (partner Susanne); height: 1.75 m; weight: 68 kg; Audi driver since 2007; DTM races: 63; pole positions: 2; victories: 2; fastest laps: 2; points: 188; DTM titles: 0; best result DTM Spielberg: 5Timo Scheider (D): * Nov 10, 1978 in Lahnstein (D); residence: Lochau (A); single (partner Jessica), one son (Loris-Romeo); height: 1.78 m; weight: 72 kg; Audi driver since 2006; DTM races: 131; pole positions: 11; victories: 6; fastest laps: 9; points: 383; DTM titles: 2 (2008, 2009); best result DTM Spielberg: 6Adrien Tambay (F): * Feb 25, 1991 in Paris (F); residence: Lochau (A); single; height: 1.81 m; weight: 69 kg; Audi driver since 2012; DTM races: 12; pole positions: 0; victories: 0 (best result: 2nd place); fastest laps: 0; points: 28; DTM titles: 0; best result DTM Spielberg: DTM drivers standings after 2 of 10 rounds1 Mike Rockenfeller (Audi) 29 points2 Bruno Spengler (BMW) 28 points3 Augusto Farfus (BMW) 25 points4 Gary Paffett (Mercedes-Benz) 20 points5 Christian Vietoris (Mercedes-Benz) 19 points6 Dirk Werner (BMW) 18 points7 Joey Hand (BMW) 16 points8 Robert Wickens (Mercedes-Benz) 15 points9 Marco Wittmann (BMW) 14 points10 Timo Scheider (Audi) 10 points11 Mattias Ekstrm (Audi) 6 points12 Pascal Wehrlein (Mercedes-Benz) 1 point13 Roberto Merhi (Mercedes-Benz) 1 pointDTM manufacturers standings1 BMW 101 points2 Mercedes-Benz 56 points3 Audi 45 pointsDTM team standings1 BMW Team Schnitzer 46 points2 BMW Team RBM 41 points3 STIHL/AMG Mercedes 34 points4 Audi Sport Team Phoenix 29 points5 EURONICS/THOMAS SABO Mercedes AMG 21 points6 BMW Team MTEK 14 points7 Audi Sport Team Abt 10 points8 Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline 6 points9 stern/AMG Mercedes 1 point
