WOLVERHAMPTON boss Peter Adams said the absence of Australian star Ty Proctor was a major factor in the ending of their unbeaten home record on Monday.Wolves local rivals Birmingham came away from Monmore Green with a 49-41 win, moving up to second in the Elite League table with a more solid team display whilst the home sides scoring was dominated by top two Tai Woffinden and Freddie Lindgren, both on 13+1.Adams said: We're disappointed but we're not surprised because Ty was always going to be a big miss given the form he's been in.The riders who could replace him werent our best riders, so without a doubt that had a huge influence on the end result. Our lower order struggled against Birminghams strong reserves.Meanwhile injury-hit Kings Lynn salvaged a league point from a 47-43 defeat at Poole with the Pirates left to rue a Heat 14 breakdown for Dawid Stachyra when in a 5-1 position. Guest reserve Kevin Doolan proved a trump card for the Stars with 12+1, whilst Chris Holder top-scored for the home side on 14.(SPEEDWAY 2)

COVENTRY were big winners on Bank Holiday Monday, climbing three places up the Elite League table with home and away wins over Peterborough for a bumper seven-point haul. The Bees stormed to a 56-37 win at the Showground and added a 50-40 success on home territory with their top two of Krzysztof Kasprzak and Scott Nicholls dominating at the business end of both meetings.Coventry boss Gary Havelock said: Im over the moonlooking at these meetings yesterday (Sunday) we probably felt four points from the day would be a decent achievement, so to get seven is fantastic, and its all down to the boys. All seven of them, at one stage or another, have come up trumps and its been a real team effort. Theyre riding now like they should have been all season, and if they had done wed probably be around third in the table, but things are definitely looking up for us.(SPEEDWAY 3)

SOMERSET secured their first-ever away win at Scunthorpe with an emphatic 56-37 result at the Eddie Wright Raceway. The Rebels opened up with three 5-1s but still found themselves trailing at the halfway stage, before coming up with a big finish including four more maximums in the last seven racesand it was the Scorpions first home league defeat since September 2011.Somerset boss Garry May said: That was just an awesome display by each and every member of the team.Even though Scunthorpe did come back at us after we banged in those 5-1s in the opening three heats, we didnt panic and went out and did the business in the second half of the meeting, and more than deserved our win and more importantly the four league points we took back to Somerset with us.(SPEEDWAY 4)

SHEFFIELD skipper Simon Stead is major doubt for the Premier League Pairs at Somerset on Friday as he continues to struggle with a hand injury.Stead, who is due to partner Ricky Wells at the Oak Tree Arena, attempted a comeback in Poland over the weekend but was still in pain and missed a trip to Poole with his Elite League club Kings Lynn on Monday. Better news for the Tigers, however, is that Richard Hall is winning his own fitness battle, and he appears likely to take Steads place at Somerset.Stead said: I honestly thought that Id be okay but I could barely hold onto the bike and I only managed three points from four rides. I will go to the sports injury clinic this week to consult my doctors and see what the prognosis is, but Im really not sure whether Ill make any of my scheduled meetings this week.
