Following the announcement of Honda's return to Formula 1 in 2015, the Swindon based arm of the esteemed manufacturer has announced a majorinvolvement at the Castle Combe Circuit's "Wessex Chambers Summer Championship Races" over the weekend of 15 and 16 June.As well as a car from its 'British Touring Car Championship' team and bikes from the Honda Motorcycle TT Legends Teams, there will be a special race in memory of Dave Allan, the Honda test driver killed last year.As well as his car development, Allan was known and respected for his racing skills, so Honda was keen to create a lasting memory and legacy for the local man and former 'British Touring Car Championship' driver.
Working with the Castle Combe Racing Club, a unique 2 driver race has been devised, in the style of the 'Britcar' endurance events. The 'Dave AllanTrophy Pursuit Race' is attracting entries from front runners in the Britcar championship as well as GT and Sports cars from many other disciplines. This will be a unique opportunity to see some of these cars on track at Castle Combe for the only time this year.As well as the race, Honda, which last week announced its return to Formula One with the McLaren team, will create a 'village' at the circuit for theweekend. This will feature a championship winning BTCC Civic and a special edition 'Team Dynamics' concept Civic. From the two wheeled world will be the Honda TT Legends Superbike ridden by Steve Plater, the Senior TT winner and one of the few riders to have lapped the TT circuit at over 130mph.Backing up the racing machinery will a large display of the company's sports bikes and cars plus off road vehicles, garden machinery boats and evengarden machinery. It's hoped one of the Honda 'Power of Dreams' Formula One cars, as driven by Jenson Button, will also make an appearance. As well as the Dave Allan race there will be a full supporting programme including rounds 4 and 5 of the Castle Combe championships for Formula Ford, Saloons and Sports & GTs.
