Scott Mansell, 18, from Tamworth, UK, has confirmed that he will compete in the full EuroBOSS Championship for 2004. With backing from Zig-Zag Rolling Papers, Scott, who is currently preparing to sit his A-Level exams, will drive a 200mph ex-F1 Jean Alesi Benetton in the 8-round international series. This deal represents a major boost to his racing career and he intends to take full advantage of the opportunity.
At the age of 16 Scott became the youngest ever driver to test an F1 machine and one year later he became the youngest British driver to competitively race a car of this power. In two outings last year he managed to drive the Benetton to third and second place proving that he has both the skill and desire.
Like his namesake and hero Nigel, he hails from the Midlands and with the re-emergence in F1 of historic names such as Piquet and Rosberg, a new Mansell in the fold would be a welcome boost to the sport.
Scott Mansell:"I am extremely grateful to Zig-Zag Rolling Papers for giving me this opportunity. It enables me to prepare properly for the season and concentrate 100% on the challenge of winning the Championship outright. We have looked at the Nissan World Series and the UK Formula BMW Championship but, having previously driven an F1 car in EuroBOSS and finished on the podium, I feel confident that a strong season in this exciting Championship will send out the right messages.
Andrew Armstrong, Zig-Zag (GB) PLC:"As the UK's 6th fastest growing companies we are delighted to be supporting one of the UK's fastest up and coming racing drivers. We have been watching Scott's progress with great interest and last year we invited him to drive the Zig-Zag Benetton in a EuroBOSS double-header and he was a sensation. We recognise that Scott has the talent and the aptitude to progress in motorsport and we shall be immensely proud if he can use this opportunity as a springboard to further his career in racing."
