GREAT Britain star Tai Woffinden finished a remarkable third in the Grand Prix of Poland at Gorzowjust 12 days after undergoing surgery to plate and screw a shattered collarbone. The Wolverhampton man maintained his second place in the overall World Championship standings, dropping just three points to series leader Emil Sayfutdinov, whilst the meeting was won by former Ipswich No.1 Jarek Hampel.Woffinden said: I probably wouldnt have thought it would happen. My shoulder hurts, but thats just part of it I guess. Ive just got to get over it. Im happy with what I did. I came here to score eight points and I came away with 12.If I was 11th or 12th in the standings, I probably wouldnt have made Gorzow. But I was sitting second in the World Championship before the meeting and its hard to just let that go away.

BELLE Vue boss Jason Attwood knows his side will face a big test of their home form when the Aces host reigning Elite League Champions Swindon on Monday. The Robins moved back into the play-off places with their home win over Coventry, and they ran up a big away victory at Kirkmanshulme Lane in 2012but Attwood wants to build on recent wins over Eastbourne and Peterborough. He said: Youre only as good as your last meeting, and of course weve won our last two home meetings and thats all we can ask for from the boys really. We want to keep building on those wins, we want to be as strong as we can at home but weve got a tough task with the league champions coming to town.

WOLVERHAMPTON manager Peter Adams has urged his team to be on their guard for the visit of Peterborough to Monmore Green on Monday. The clash brings together the Elite Leagues top and bottom clubs, and Adams is keen to avoid any slip-ups with the Panthers having been boosted by a home win over Eastbourne on Friday.Adams said: Even though Peterborough have only won three of their 13 matches we have to treat them with respect. This is a potential banana skin match for our riders so we will need to be on our guard, particularly given the injury situation.

STOKE secured a narrow National Trophy home win over champions-elect Isle of Wight thanks to a last-heat 5-1 from Lee Smart and Luke Priest. The final race outcome cancelled out a maximum to the Islanders one heat earlier as the Potters took the meeting 45-44, although the point gained by the Islanders means only a mathematical miracle can deny them the silverware.Stoke boss Malcolm Vasey said: It was a good win over a very good Isle of Wight side and it was also a very exciting finish with a 5-1 to us in the final heat, and Im extremely pleased with what was a very good team performance. We had a handicap right from the off with the firepower they have at reserve in Adam Ellis which they are entitled to use, and after weathering the early storm we came back and won the match, and credit to everybody for a solid team effort.

BUXTON have made a team change with Berwick asset Liam Carr joining the club in a loan deal, and Tyler Govier making way.Carr had a spell with Stoke last season and is set to make his debut against his former club at the Hi-Edge Raceway on Sunday.Buxton promoter Jayne Moss said: We havent had the best of starts and have been struggling for that extra rider scoring points. After discussing the way forward we have made the decision to release Tyler with immediate effect.Unfortunately with Ryan (Blacklock) already out injured the team were struggling to cover his rides and with Tyler finding points hard to come by every match was always an uphill battle. We felt that we needed to make a change to the team to hopefully get those few extra points we need which will make the difference between us winning and losing.
