(SPEEDWAY 1)SCUNTHORPES Lewis Blackbird scored his first paid maximum at Premier League level in the Scorpions 59-35 home win over Glasgow.Blackbird was unbeaten from four rides, including a spectacular pass of the Tigers James Grieves in Heat 4, whilst Ashley Birkswho has taken over as club captainmissed out on a full score of his own when he fell in the final race.Blackbird said: I have really enjoyed myself since Ive been riding for Scunthorpe. I like the track. I had a problem a few weeks back, when I sent off my best engine to be tuned, but now Ive got my little baby back and things are really good again.I think Ive now had five meetings in a row, for both Scunthorpe and Dudley (in the National League), where Ive dropped only one point or got a maximum. Things are going well. Ive got a good team behind me and I just want to keep it going.(SPEEDWAY 2)SOMERSET collected all three points from their Premier League clash with Newcastle, taking a 51-39 win despite some early setbacks.Kyle Newman was withdrawn after breaking a bone in his toe in a first-bend Heat 1 incident, and Alex Davies flew over the fence in Heat 3 before remarkably returning to win his final two rides. Jason Doyle scored a full maximum and Josh Grajczonek dropped just one point to the opposition.Rebels boss Garry May said: This was a true team performance, but despite losing Kyle in Heat 1 and then it looking like Alex would also be on his way to hospital after his Heat 3 incident, it made the guys even more determined and when Alex declared himself fit to continue riding, then there was just no stopping us.All the guys were superb, and I was extremely proud of both the performance and their desire to overcome what could have been match-deciding setbacks.(SPEEDWAY 3)EDINBURGH moved to within four points of second-placed Leicester in the Premier League with a 52-37 win over the Lions at Armadale. The final score, however, did not tell the full story as the Lions held a four-point lead on the night after Heat 9 before the Monarchs finished strongly, and they collected 5-1s from the final three races.Craig Cook top-scored for the home side with 13+1, beaten only by Kauko Nieminen in Heat 1, and Claus Vissings 12+1 was his best meeting for the club.Cook said: I honestly thought we had just nicked it by a few points, I never thought it would be that big a scoreline.(SPEEDWAY 4)PLYMOUTH overturned an early deficit to get the better of Berwick 50-40 in an entertaining Premier League fixture at the St Boniface Arena. The Devils, still without the injured Ty Proctor and using rider-replacement for the unavailable Mikkel Bech, were well-served by Australian duo Cory Gathercole and Mark Lemon, who both scored 14, whilst debutant Simon Nielsen won his first race for the club.Plymouth co-promoter Ashley Taylor said: The whole team showed grit and determination to take all three points from the meeting. A special mention is due to Simon Nielsen, who went out and won his first ride. What more could you ask?It was excellent to come back and win, despite being four points down after six heats in what proved to be an excellent meeting between two good teams.(SPEEDWAY 5)MILDENHALL secured a 48-40 away win at National League leaders Coventry to gain significant ground in the early race for the play-offs.The Fen Tigers made the best of tricky conditions after rain during the day, with the experience of Jon Armstrong to the fore as he scored 14 points from five rides and won the final two races.Armstrong said: It was difficult tonight, but before the start I told the younger lads and reserves dont charge it, just ride the track and pick up your points, let them make the mistakes and that is what happened. It was very tricky and it was halfway through the meeting before the one racing line on the inside appeared and you could race on it. But if you went off it and out wide you were likely to be in trouble. It was a night to use your head, we did and it was a great team effort.(FIXTURES)SATURDAY JUNE 29:PREMIER LEAGUE: Rye House v Somerset 7pm, Workington v Ipswich 7pmNATIONAL TROPHY: Stoke v Buxton 7pmSUNDAY JUNE 30:PREMIER LEAGUE: Glasgow v Ipswich 3pm, Newcastle v Rye House 6.30NATIONAL LEAGUE PAIRS: Mildenhall 4.30MONDAY JULY 1:GARY PETERSON MEMORIAL TROPHY: Wolverhampton v Dudley 7.30KENT LAURELS: Kent 6.30TUESDAY JULY 2:NATIONAL LEAGUE: Isle of Wight v Coventry 7pm
