DUDLEY duo Ashley Morris and Lewis Blackbird won the National League Pairs at Mildenhall on Sunday. The Heathens recovered from some early setbacks at the group stage and finished two points clear of the host club, represented by Dan Halsey and Josh Bates, in the Final with Kent duo Steve Boxall and Ben Morley third.Dudley boss Will Pottinger said: We had problems early on with Lewis retirement and Ash breaking the tapes, but Ashs ride off 15 metres really set us going. The key as always in these events is to have no last places and we avoided that. This is the second trophy of the season for us and Im pleased we have won the Pairs as this is a trophy Dudley had not previously won.

NEWCASTLE strengthened their position in the Premier League play-off zone with a 60-30 home win over Rye House on Sunday.Richie Worrall raced to a 15-point maximum for the Diamonds with Andrew Tully, recently back from injury, adding a paid maximum from four rides, whilst Ludvig Lindgren and Lewis Kerr were unbeaten following failures to finish in their first rides.Newcastle boss George English said: Three more good League points in the bag was what we were after, and we got just that with some spirited racing after three very unfortunate heats to open the match. It was good to watch Chris Schramm steadily get to grips with his new home track and he finished his account with a good paid win in Heat 11 behind Richie over good quality opposition, which indicates he has what it takes to score well in our reserve berth.

GREAT Britain Youth co-boss Neil Vatcher said Kyle Howarth had received a harsh lesson in bike set-up after his Wild Card appearance in the first round of the World Under-21 Final over the weekend. The 19-year-old was making his debut in the event and finished with one point at Polish venue Pila, with Elite League regulars Kacper Gomolski (Swindon) and Andzejs Lebedevs (Kings Lynn) finishing on the rostrum behind meeting winner Patryk Dudek.Vatcher said: As shown on many occasions before at both senior and junior level when British riders go to Europe they seem to lack the power in the engines that the opposition have! In an extremely strong line-up that included seven Poles riding in their home country, its fair to say that Kyle was the best gater on the night as he made the starts in all his races, but he did not have the speed to compete over four laps. Kyle and his team now have plenty to think about ahead of the second round which is at Berwick on Saturday August 10, where he is again hoping to be selected for a Wild Card.(FIXTURES)
