NEWCASTLES Christian Henry crashed out of the Diamonds narrow defeat at Leicester in a Heat 1 incident which also saw home guest Ashley Birks withdrawn from the meeting.Henry (leg) and regular Scunthorpe rider Birks (wrist) are both out of Sundays Premier League Fours at Peterborough as a result, with Newcastle left to rue a last-heat 5-1 from Magnus Karlsson and Lasse Bjerre which gave the Lions a tense 46-44 victory.Diamonds boss George English said: We did well to hold them so close through the match, but losing Christian so early on left us chasing our tail a little.Whilst the lads rallied round well, we know how well Christian races and to lose that power right at the start of the meeting was hard to overcome, and had he not fallen we could have had this match in the bag.(SPEEDWAY 2)
RYE House and Edinburgh fought out a dramatic 45-45 draw at Hoddesdon with high drama at the starting gate throughout the meeting.Monarchs No.1 Craig Cook suffered no fewer than three tapes infringements, twice racing from a 15 metre handicap, whilst the last race saw both Claus Vissing and Anders Mellgren penalised. Vissing was subsequently disqualified with his team-mate Cook finally winning the re-run to secure a draw.Rye House promoter Len Silver said: It was a fabulous night of racing and drama, with so many what ifs? What if Craig Cook hadnt had three tapes exclusions? What if Jason (Bunyan) hadnt fallen, Anders stopped when he was set for a 5-1 with Tyson (Nelson) or Tyson suffered a puncture coming on the final bend? All those ifs and buts evened themselves out. A draw was the only fair result.

BERWICK were left licking their wounds after a late Redcar comeback saw the Bears snatch a last-gasp win in Saturdays Premier League encounter at Shielfield ParkThe Bandits looked comfortably ahead at 42-35 with two heats to go, but a Micky Dyer-inspired visiting side picked up two 5-1s, Dyer winning both races with Carl Wilkinson and Hugh Skidmore supplying the crucial second places.Berwick boss Ian Rae said: We knew we had our work cut out, but we fought hard and when the score was 42-35 with two to go I doubt if anyone honestly believed the Bears capable of getting two maximums to take the win.But this is speedway and completely unpredictable and their determination gained them a very special win, in what was a very good meeting to watchif you can detach from the result.
