The British Superbike Championship headed to the fantastic Brands GP circuit this weekend for the Pirelli National Superstock Championship. The Be Wiser Kawasaki riders had a challenging weekend at the circuit with Nick Anderson in the National Superstock 600 class gaining their best result of the day in 15th position. Josh Wainwright ended up in 18th place in the National Superstock 1000 race and sadly Josh Day crashed out of a strong 13th place.
In the National Superstock 600 class Nick Anderson managed to qualify in 16th place but he got a terrible start and lost a number of places on the opening lap. This left himself with a lot of work to do for the 12-lap race and he was eager to get into a points scoring position. He was in 23rd place after lap one and worked hard to push through to 15th on the closing lap.
Nick Anderson - "I didn't have the best of weekends and I struggled during qualifying to set one fast lap so I had to start in 16th place. This would have been ok if I didn't get a shocking start and was blocked and boxed into Paddock Hill and Paddock, I made some passes before the end of the opening lap and I was still back in 23rd place. I really had to dig deep and work hard to push through the pack and make up some places, it was a really tough race but I managed to get another Championship point. I need to try and sort out my qualifying for Oulton and hopefully I can get higher on the grid and then I can get a decent race result."
Josh Wainwright had a nightmare during the second qualifying session and he was unable to put in a fast time as he was forced to complete the session on an old tyre which put him down in 25th place on the grid. The local rider rode a solid race to come through to 18th place.
Josh Wainwright - "I came to Brands with high hopes with it being my local round and also in the past I have had good results here and enjoy riding here. Friday was an average day but with us being on the short circuit it wasn't' really ideal to take anything from it. In the second qualifying session we found out we had a faulty wheel so I had to complete the whole session on an old tyre so it was nearly impossible to put in a quick time. I was 25th and had a lot of work to do, I had good race pace and my aim was top 15 before I came here but had to settle for 18th instead and just outside the points."
Josh Day also struggled during qualifying and ended up in 16th place on the grid, he had an average start but lost a place after lap one. He was battling hard and got up to 13th place but crashed out at Druids on lap 13.
Josh Day - "It was another tough weekend for the Stock class as we had only testing on the short circuit on Friday and then the only rain of the weekend decided to fall during our first qualifying session which is just typical. Realistically we only had one dry qualifying session so it's hard to try and fit it all in to that, get a good set up and a fast lap time so it put me in 16th. I felt strong in warm up for the race after we made some changes overnight and I was eager to get going in the race. I didn't get one of the starts that I normally get and I got stuck behind Peter Ward who brakes quite late and points and fires the bike, I like to carry a lot of corner speed but I was having to do the same as him as I couldn't get passed him and because I was braking so hard I got terrible arm pump. I was pushing hard but sadly just tucked the front and crashed out at Druids. I want to get testing to Oulton before the next round so I can find a good base setting for the bike and hopefully suss out qualifying for when we go there in a few weeks. I'm frustrated and gutted for the team this weekend so hopefully I can repay them with a good result at Oulton."
Team Owner/Manager Alan Grieg - "It seems once again we had no luck this weekend, the boys all struggled with qualifying due to one reason or another.
Nick rode a really strong race and once again proved he has the race pace to ride well we just need to try and sort his qualifying out and I know he can run with the front runners.
There was a miscommunication or misunderstanding with Josh Day this weekend which resulted in a bad qualifying session. He proved in the past that he can get near the front from the fourth or fifth row and I'm sure he could have got up to the top ten today and at the point he crashed he was in a solid 12th place. He was pushing hard to make up places which resulted in his crash, hopefully we can sort the qualifying out for him also at the next round.
Josh Wainwright, this was his local track and he had a lot of support from his family and friends here. Sadly there was a wheel fault in qualifying which stopped him achieving what he is capable of, he was on old tyres and suffered for it. He battled really hard throughout the race and despite his efforts he was unable to get in the points like he deserved.
I would like to thank the entire team and all the Be Wiser Kawasaki riders for giving their time and effort to spend time with 12 terminally ill children from the local Demelza Children's Hospice. It was very moving and sad to hear their stories but we're pleased we were able to put a smile on their face. Thanks must also go to Derek Sanders for providing them with a vast amount of Haribo sweets during their time at Brands."
