Progress for Johnny Blackshaw at Brands National Superstock 1000

Accident Advice Solicitors supported rider Johnny Blackshaw had another progressive weekend in the National Superstock 1000 Championship at the awesome Brands Hatch GP circuit, he managed to finish the 15 lap race in 24th place.

The team made a huge discovery with the shock after second qualifying on Saturday after Johnny realised there was an issue during that session. After investigation and a late night the youngster was able to take 0.7 off his qualifying time in the morning warm up. Despite qualifying in 36th place for the race he fought his way through to 24th.

Johnny Blackshaw - "We made a really big step forward this weekend and it could have been a problem that we hadn't noticed for a couple of meetings. Once again it was all a bit mixed for our class on the Friday was just on the short circuit so it was difficult to get a good set up.

Typically on Saturday morning it started to rain for our session and this made the track very slippery and again hard to do many laps to get the bike working properly. It was only in the afternoon when the track had dried that I was able to push the bike to its full potential and that's when I thought something wasn't right.

I thought at one point I had a puncture and explained this to my mechanics when I came in, we took the shock to K Tech and found it had a problem. We sorted out a new one and Dave, Dan and Cliffy fitted it that night and it was like a new bike come Sunday morning during warm up. I normally go slower in warm up and this time I was 0.7 faster.

I knew it was too late for Brands to do anything with qualifying in 36th but I was really confident to have a good race knowing how good the bike now felt. I got my head down and know that my race pace is always better, I was able to make some good moves through the pack and not get tied up in the opening few laps. At one stage during the race I was beginning to ride it again like a 600 machine and that is certainly not ideal but after so many years on the smaller back sometimes it's hard to get out of bad habits. I know I'm still learning and this showed as my times on Friday on the Indy circuit were much faster than what I set at the start of the season. I made good progress and my times were good also, hopefully now things are sorted we can continue to improve at Oulton Park in a couple of weeks' time.

I must thank Dave, Dan, Cliffy and my Dad for all the hard work that they put in every weekend and obviously my sponsors who without them it wouldn't be possibly for me to race especially Tamara and Dave at Accident Advice Solicitors."
