ADD Motorsports racer Oli Norris showed his fighting spirit to finish strongly in Ortona - ended up in 15th positiondespite qualifying back in 58th!
It was a fitting way for the 16-year-old to bow out of the CIK-FIA euro championship after showing his worth among the best drivers in the world. He said: Everyone was really pleased to finish 15th, especially after my start which wasnt the best. Its the hardest race in the world so Im delighted with how I did.
Despite being one of the quickest drivers in testing, his weekend got off to the worst possible start when his engine seized on the very first lap in qualifying. It meant he finished 58th out of 58 drivers leaving him with all the work to do from the back of the grid during the heats.Oli started each race in and around the 25th spot, with hard-earned finishes in the mid to high teens each time.
He began the pre-final in 22nd with it all to do just to make the final. But he made it in some style, finishing in sixth place and just behind fourth and fifth with some lightning-quick lap times.
He began the final in 11th position but was shunted from behind early on leaving him some nine positions back on his starting place. But thanks to some fine driving the teen managed to pull himself back in to 15th by the end of the raceno more than he deserved thanks to his perseverance and hard work.
He added: It was a really slippery track due to all the dustit was almost like driving in the wet at times. But I was really happy with my last two racesespecially coming back so well after the awful start I had.We were really, really quick in the last two races although in the final I didnt have enough space to really make it count. It was difficult, but a really good way to finish the weekend.
