WOLVERHAMPTON maintained their position at the top of the Elite League with a dramatic 46-44 win over reigning champions Swindon at Monmore Green.Wolves trailed by two points going into the final race but turned the match around in the decider as guest rider and club legend Peter Karlsson combined with Tai Woffinden for a 5-1 over the Robins Nick Morris and Hans Andersen.Woffinden said: Me and PK knew what we needed to do and did the job in hand which was great. It was a tough night for me personally, but it was a great effort from the team and a really important result.Swindon boss Alun Rossiter took the consolation of a league point from the meeting, saying: It was still a great effort from all the team and you can't fault any of them. We came back well and showed plenty of character, but it just wasn't to be in the end.(SPEEDWAY 3)

PETERBOROUGH and Birmingham fought out a memorable 45-45 draw at the Showground with the result of the meeting in doubt until the final yards. The Panthers led by eight points after nine races but a strong Brummies fightback took them into a 41-37 lead, before the home side notched a 5-1 in Heat 14. Chris Harris won a spectacular final race for the visitors but Patrick Hougaards third place secured a draw for the home team.Harris said: Its a shame we couldnt take the win but thats speedway for you, at one stage we were eight points down so the boys did well to pull that back from what was a bad situation.Peterborough co-promoter Trevor Swales said: There was some great racing, but once again its points dropped for us and so that has to be disappointing. We seemed to lose our way from around Heats 10 and 11 and we need to look at the reasons for that.
