POOLE maintained their Elite League play-off hopes with an emphatic 62-28 win over fourth-placed Lakeside at Wimborne Road.Pirates skipper Darcy Ward scored a paid maximum from five rides whilst Greg Hancock reeled off four straight wins as the home side set themselves up for a potentially crucial trip to Belle Vue next Monday.Promoter Matt Ford said: That is just what we wanted. We still have a lot of work to do to seize on that fourth place but the team showed just what they are capable of. It was truly an all-round performance and should put us in a confident mood for next Monday, although the Aces will be sore for certain as they lost at home tonight. We won there back in June - a repeat of that score would suit us just fine.(SPEEDWAY 2)

WOLVERHAMPTON gained revenge for last weeks home defeat at the hands of Belle Vue by racing to a 48-42 win the return fixture.Although the Aces had the outstanding rider of the meeting in Craig Cook, who scored a paid maximum, Wolves were by far the more solid side with Ricky Wells and Fredrik Lindgren both picking up paid-11.Wolves boss Peter Adams said: We were desperate to rectify our defeat against Belle Vue last Monday and prove it was a bit of a one off, so all the boys were all really up for it and we put in a good performance.I think the strength in depth was shown by the fact nobody made double figures yet we still managed to win by six points. It was a good win and we are very happy with the performance.(SPEEDWAY 3)

SOMERSETS Kyle Newman is expected to be ruled out for up to a fortnight after his crash at Edinburgh last Friday.Newman suffered a torn bicep muscle and dislocated ligaments on two fingers, and has to wait for the injuries to heal of their own accord.Somerset promoter Debbie Hancock said: We know that Kyle will definitely miss Fridays home league match against Berwick, rider replacement being the only option open to us. Rest is the only real cure for his injuries, but after that we will take it on a day-by-day basis before making any decisions for the following weeks matches. While we have assured ourselves of a place in the play-offs there will be no let-up by the team as we want one of those top two places come the cut-off date so that we can determine our opposition in the play-offs.(FIXTURES)
