RYE House have been boosted by the news that Pontus Aspgren will be fit to resume this weekend after crashing out at Hoddesdon in their win over Scunthorpe. The Rockets, who still have a doubt over Jason Garrity, face Workington on Saturday with the Comets needing points to book their play-off place – whilst the home side want to maintain their form ahead of the KO Cup Final.Rye boss John Sampford said: “Pontus has advised us he will be OK to race after his heavy fall last Saturday, which is terrific news.“We want to win to build on the momentum of the last few weeks. We need to be in a winning frame of mind for the Cup Final when it arrives.”(SPEEDWAY 2)
SCUNTHORPE have announced plans to host local rivals Sheffield on Sunday September 15 in a meeting to be run under one of the sport’s traditional formats. The Retro Cup will feature a match consisting of 13-heats with tactical substitutes and a rider-of-the-night second half competition, and a return fixture is also expected to take place at Owlerton.Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “For those who buy the magazine ‘Backtrack’ and love to wallow in a bit of nostalgia, this should be the perfect meeting for them. For newer supporters, it’s a chance to see how we used to do things.“Plus it’s another chance to lock horns with our local rivals, the Sheffield Tigers. We beat them home and away in the Premier League this season. The Tigers will be after revenge, while we’ll want to beat them again.”

DUDLEY completed a perfect home record in the National League with a 60-32 win over Buxton at Monmore Green.Skipper Ashley Morris scored a paid maximum whilst Lewis Blackbird and Paul Starke only missed out to Hitmen No.1 Charles Wright in Heat 13 – and Starke took over half-a-second off the track record in the first race.Dudley boss Will Pottinger said: “It was another comfortable win for us and another good performance from the boys. We do need to try and cut the errors out if we can as we threw away a couple of points which we might not get away with in the play-offs.”Defeat was not, however, the end of Buxton’s aspirations as the Isle of Wight’s failure to take all three points from their home match against Kent – they won 48-42 – means the clash between the Hitmen and the Islanders at the Hi-Edge Raceway on Sunday could be crucial to the play-off race.
