after a strong opening round in the world championships.
ADD Motorsports driver Oli Norris is targeting a minimum Top 10 finish after a strong showing in the opening round of the CIK-FIA World KF Championship. The Glastonbury racer finished well despite a shaky start to end up 16th in the top class event.
But he has set his sights higher for the second round where he believes he can be up there with the best.
He said: “To finish 16th in the world is pretty good. There’s another round and I want to finish Top 10 as a minimum.“It was a really busy event and there were a lot of people there, so it was a difficult weekend.“We were really quick at times so I would have liked to have done better though.”
Oli finished 11th in his group during qualifying which put him 16th overall.
He began the first heat in seventh, but was happy to finish 13th in the end after falling further back early on.He started and finished the second heat in seventh and although found some good pace, couldn’t catch the leaders.
In the third heat the kart span, leaving him second from last. But he kept going and came back well to finish 14th after being back in 25th.He was a lot more confident in the final heat, finishing sixth after starting seventh.
For the pre-final, Oli began in tenth and finished a place higher although couldn’t quite find the same pace as earlier in the day.The final saw the teen off to a bad start when he got pushed out wide early on, but he managed to avoid a big crash. But from starting in 18th position, the pile up left him floundering back in 27th.
But with the race 20 minutes long, Oli kept going and was pleased to get back up the field to end in a respectable 16th.He said: “The final was the longest race I have ever been in, it was a bit too long really at 22 laps and 20 minutes.“It was hard to race because everyone was so close and it was a physical track.
“We’re pretty quick now and should be finishing further up the field but we just started too far back unfortunately. “Hopefully I’ll have a better race next round.”
