GP2 Series: Adrian, congratulations on a great race win today. It looked quite easy from outside of the car, but how was it from the inside?Adrian Quaife-Hobbs: It definitely wasn’t easy: no win is! [laughs] Obviously we got a good start, which set the race up because I could take the usual line into turn one, and I had around a second on the first lap which meant the tow worry was gone. After that it was the rain, because we had it under control on pace and were even pulling away a bit, and with the rain I was the first one there and there was no reference on how wet it is, so I took it a bit easy and some people behind closed up a bit, but it’s natural that people behind want to take more risk than the person in front. Luckily they didn’t get too close, I was over a second the whole time, and I think that was key for the race.GP2 Series: The team were letting you know how close Rossi was, but it seemed that you had him covered every lap. What do you put that down to: a good car, a good drive, everything just coming together?Adrian: The team did a fantastic job is the easiest answer to that! [laughs] The car’s been quick since I jumped into it, and it’s just getting used to everything here: the car has been getting quicker and quicker, we haven’t necessarily got it sort in qualifying as my last lap today was just a few tenths off what I did in qualifying, but the race pace is faultless, my engineer was letting me know everytime Rossi was getting close, and I just put in a fast lap. I didn’t know how the tyres would go off, if at all, so we were just managing the gap and on the last lap I pushed as hard as I could, and we were second fastest and there was pace in hand.GP2 Series: It seemed like the tyres were fine all day: was that the case?Adrian: Yeah, there’s no wear issues, but there’s still thermal degradation so if you keep pushing and locking up the wheel spin gets bigger and you lose grip. But as long as you’re not spinning the tyres you’re ok, and you can push in the fast corners.GP2 Series: What does this result mean for you and the team?Adrian: Obviously it’s a massive achievement for me in my first year in GP2, and my second team in GP2! [laughs] I’ve had a podium with both, and they’re both new teams: in Spa we could have had better results with the pace we had, and we’ve carried it over. I haven’t been worried about race pace, we’ve always been quick, and it’s just about pitting early in race one and finding space and putting the lap times in, which we did yesterday, and today again you could see the pace was good. We’ve got two more rounds, and the ambition is to get on the podium in the feature race.---GP2 Series: Alexander, P2 is normally a good result but I suspect you were looking for more: how was the race from your seat?Alexander Rossi: I severely screwed up the start, there’s no other way to explain it! [laughs] So I fell back to P6 at turn one, and I just did everything I could to recover it: I was fourth by the end of lap one, and then when the rain started to come I took a bit of a risk and it worked out for us. It was a good recovery, but obviously starting from pole you don’t want to finish anywhere but first, so that’s on me. But the team gave me a very good car, we’ve made such big improvements since Budapest and had two podiums in two weekends, so it’s a good confidence boost for the team. We’re just needing that win now, and if we take these two weeks and focus on the starts, find a little bit of performance in the car, I think we’ll be in a position to find that win.GP2 Series: Nevertheless the pace was there, you were able to overtake when it was slippery, so you’ve got to take some solice from that?Alexander: Yeah, I’m relieved we ended up where we did, but it’s just a little bit fresh when the reason that we didn’t win was my mistake, but I’ll feel sorry for myself for another hour or so and it’ll be all good.GP2 Series: What can you take from this into Singapore?Alexander: I think we can take the fact that our car is good, that our pace is good, and we seem to have found the sweet spot between the car and the tyres, which is obviously the key to this championship, and I think I’m really getting my head around the changes you have to make between qualifying and the race, so it’s all coming together nicely.---GP2 Series: Julian, P3 today and a great battle between you and Sam all race long: it looked like a lot of fun from the outside, but how was it for you from the inside of the car?Julian Leal: In the inside it was not as fun! [laughs] It was very hard because it was always there, you know, and I was pushing all the time. The race was very hard, and it started to race in the first sector, so it was very difficult to find the braking point, to keep the position, and in the first chicane I went straight and I think Sam too, and Alexander had a better exit and could overtake us. But after this I was only trying to concentrate and to keep the position and be consistent. the team made a really good job. The car was pretty good. We have the pace to be there. I'm very happy because in the last races it is working well for us and we're making quite a lot of points. We have to continue like this.GP2 Series: We saw yesterday Fabio had pressure all race long from Sam. Today it was your turn. Were you watching Fabio yesterday going if he can do it, I can do it too?Julian: Yes, it's like that. We have to stay focused. On thiscircuit, to exit well from the chicane or parabolica, it is very difficult because poeple can overtake you there. So I was only focusing on the exit of the corners. That's it. It's a very good result for us.GP2 Series: What does this new podium mean for you and the team?Julian: For the team, it is quite good because now we're second in the teams' standings. For me, it's fantastic because we're improving constently. We have to continue like this. We are in a good position. I expect to be there again in the next races.
