Andy Richardson heads to Rockingham this weekend hoping to impress in the latest rounds of the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain.
The South Lincolnshire-based 22-year-old makes the short trip to the Northamptonshire venue sitting eighth in the championship standings and fourth amongst the Scholarship Class runners in what is his maiden season of single-seater competition.
Andy is currently only 41 points away from a place in the top six in the standings, despite a challenging weekend on track last time out at Knockhill.
While the Scottish event failed to deliver the desired results, Andy and the Richardson Racing team were able to take further strides forwards in their understanding of the Ford EcoBoost-powered Mygale being campaigned this season.
As such, both team and driver will now hope to make the most of the extra knowledge and experience gained in the latest three rounds of the season this weekend.
Although the results at Knockhill werent what we were hoping for, we were able to learn a lot over the course of the weekend that puts us in a better position for Rockingham, he said. We need to see where we are after testing, but Knockhill was a very unique circuit when it came to getting the car working right and we should be able to hit the ground running at a more normal track like Rockingham.
The circuit has a real mixture of corners and the infield section is quite slow and challenging compared to the flat run around the oval. Well make sure we get a run on new tyres in testing to try and avoid a repeat of the overheating problems we suffered in Scotland, but Im hopeful we can have a strong weekend to set us up well for the final two rounds.
As well as seeking to improve his championship position, Andy has added reason to impress having been one of the drivers in the field to have nominated themselves for the Mazda Road to Indy Formula Ford Driver of the Year competition.
The winner, who will be chosen by a panel of experts from British and US racing, will win a prize of an all-expenses-paid trip to the USA to take a free full-day test in a USF2000 single-seater, as well as a further full days testing in a Pro Mazda car.
