WOLVERHAMPTON owner Chris Van Straaten says the club are honoured to be hosting the first-ever Joe Hughes Invitational event on Monday. The meeting, in memory of the former rider and technical supplier, is aimed at raising money for Cancer Research and a new training track for British youngsters in Burton.Said Van Straaten: “Joe was well known throughout the sport and I always enjoyed our conversations, he had some good views on the sport.“The organisers have done extremely well to pull in the line-up they have. When we first agreed to stage the meeting Greg Hancock’s diary was the key, and now the meeting also features Darcy Ward, our own Freddie Lindgren and, of course, Sam Ermolenko. It has all the makings of a super night of racing.”

KING’S Lynn and Birmingham will meet again at the Norfolk Arena on Sunday afternoon after seeing their Friday clash washed-out by bad weather.Track work had taken place during the day but persistent rain from 6pm led to the surface becoming unsafe for the riders, and no racing was possible. The meeting will now take place at 2pm on Sunday with the re-arranged return at Perry Barr on Monday evening, as part of a busy programme of Elite League racing which should sort out the play-off qualifiers and finishing order of the top four.

MILDENHALL head to the Isle of Wight on Tuesday in confident mood for the first leg of their National League KO Cup semi-final.The Fen Tigers are without unavailable duo Jon Armstrong and Aaron Baseby but are boosted by the return of Josh Bates after a recent injury lay-off.Fen Tigers Chairman Kevin Jolly said: “The lads are charged up and hungry for success - last Sunday's victory at home to Dudley was a massive lift for the club and there is a real buzz around the team now. They know how important Tuesday night is, and we need to perform on the Island to set up next Sunday's second leg in front of our own supporters. “Having Josh back is a massive boost as it is virtually impossible to cover for him with rider replacement. I am confident we can keep things very close on Tuesday and then finish off the job in front of a big Mildenhall crowd.”(FIXTURES)
