Max Fewtrell stays positive after difficult final in the Super One Series

ADD Motorsports driver Max Fewtrell said he had learnt some valuable lessons after a difficult finish in the Super One Series. The 14-year-old was left with worn tyres for the final leaving him without any grip and a frustrating race.

But the Bray teen was happy with his overall performance after ending in 15th place in Round Five of the KFJ class event. And he vowed to come back stronger and wiser next time out.

He said: “I’m coming away quite happy. I had a really good Friday and Saturday, but was left with zero grip for the finals.“It made it very difficult on the corners – and I had no pace.

“I know I can do a lot better - I’ve just got to learn to save my tyres.”

Max was in the top five all day Friday and was pleased with his performance during qualifying that saw him finish fourth. He led for the first nine laps of Heat One, although finished third, and was still up there for Heat Two, when his pace was really good to see him finish fourth.

Max started the pre-final in second place but lost a lot of ground when he was hit early on.It was a similar story in the final, when he was hit early on after starting at the back of the grid.

He found it difficult to get back in the race from then on and with worn tyres could never find the pace he had earlier in the weekend. He added: “I had zero grip and later I realised there was probably no point in going out there.“I couldn’t keep up with anyone and couldn’t take the corners properly.“But I have learnt some important things about saving my tyres and how to lead a race a bit better from the weekdend.“I’m looking forward to putting it right in the next race.”
