Representing Scott Tucker's Level 5 Motorsports

Rising star Mason Daughters, recently signed by Scott Tucker of Level 5 Motorsports to the team’s Driver Development Program, continues to impress in the USRA B-mod ranks. Coming off of his first major victory in the USRA Iron Man Challenge, Daughters nearly notched his second victory in the national spotlight this past weekend in the Featherlite Nationals at Deer Creek Speedway.

Tucker, a native of Leawood, Kan., and a nine-time national driving champion, identified Daughters as the team's latest development driver. Since joining the Level 5 ranks, Daughters has been on an amazing trajectory. His performance at Featherlite Nationals was impressive all week long — winning heat races, placing first in passing points, setting fastest lap times and transferring to Saturday’s main event on day one of the race week. In an event packed with races in the days leading up to the main event, making it to Saturday’s big show with car intact is an accomplishment in itself.

“It’s important to have a consistent driver that can go out and take care of the car,” said Dustin Boney, coach of the No. 55 Level 5 Motorsports team. “And, it’s equally important to have a solid crew. This Level 5 Motorsports team is second to none.”

Daughters’ consistency behind the wheel is also proving to be second to none. It is easy to forget that the young driver has only been racing cars on the dirt for about three months now. Nonetheless, Daughters has consistently found himself running in the top five, challenging for the lead and winning races week in and week out.

“We expect to win when we show up at the track,” said Daughters. “You can’t always control everything that happens out there, like what other cars around you are going to do. Sometimes you get caught up in trouble and there is nothing you can do about it. But, this team knows that it is good enough to win every race, and we expect to go out there and challenge for the lead.”

Come Saturday’s main event at Featherlite Nationals, challenge for the victory is exactly what Daughters and his Level 5 Motorsports team did. The 25-lap main event was hotly contested from the second the green flag dropped. Daughters drove a very smart race, avoiding wrecks and putting himself in a good position to challenge for the lead late in the race.

With a few laps remaining, Daughters found himself battling with the leader as they navigated their way through lapped traffic. As the white flag waved, Daughters made a pass for the lead when the leader got loose. Unfortunately, a caution flag came out at the same time and Daughters was moved back to second place for a green-white-checkered, NASCAR-style shootout for the victory.

With a crowd in the thousands on its feet, Daughters gave it all he had on the last lap, but making the car go outside of the main groove proved impossible. Daughters gave it one more shot going into turn four, but the race leader edged him by a nose at the finish line and Daughters missed notching another major victory in his young career by a hair.

Although he didn’t win, Daughters' impressive performance was noted by teammates and competitors alike. And, his boss, Scott Tucker, was very optimistic after the race.

“Mason is going to be a force to be reckoned with,” Tucker said. “We’re all very proud of the progress that he’s made in such a short period of time. This kid has a big future in racing, and we’re thrilled to have him under the Level 5 Motorsports banner.”
