BRDC F4 heads for six-way finale shoot-out

The final round of the inaugural BRDC Formula 4 race series, using Yokohama control tyres, is heading for a thrilling finale this weekend, as the series returns to Donington Park for the final three races of the season. With 21 races already taken place and ten different drivers claiming a win, there are no less than six drivers who could walk away as 2013 champion on Sunday afternoon following the final three races. The new-for-2013 series, based on identical single seaters using spec engines, transmissions, suspension and Yokohama ADVAN A005 and A006 slick and wet tyres respectively, has proved a huge hit. All 24 available cars were sold before the first was even finished and full grids at all of this season's races, combined with stars from motorsport on hand to offer advise and inspiration, have all served to make the series a huge hit.In addition, the series, run by MSV Racing, secured extensive TV coverage and drew names such as the grandson of F1 legend Emerson Fittipaldi during the course of the year, offering huge rewards for aspiring F1 drivers, sponsors and partners alike. There is a significant prize fund, with the champion claiming £25,000, a test in a Carlin Motorsport F3 car and a BRM watch worth £4,500.No less than ten drivers have stood on the top step of the podium since the first round at Silverstone in April. Series leader Jake Hughes has taken three wins this year, as has second-placed Jack Barlow. With a lead of 45 points and 90 available over the final three races, Hughes could take the title in this weekend's first race but such has been the level of competition this year, it's likely to remain undecided until the last race of the year. The other drivers in the hunt are Seb Morris, Matty Graham, Charlie Robertson and Jake Dalton.Commenting ahead of what is sure to be a scintillating finale, Head of Motorsport at Yokohama HPT Ltd, Mark Evans, said; "This year's BRDC F4 championship has been a resounding success for all involved and it is a fitting end to the season that six drivers can still mathematically win the championship at the final round."Not only has it provided excellent racing action and a perfect stepping stone from which to develop a racing driver's career, the support provided by MSV Racing has been exceptional. To have drivers such as Mark Weber, Jenson Button and personalities like Damon Hill and Derek Warwick get behind the series and endorse it shows how well it has been received by all involved."I am also delighted with how the Yokohama tyres have performed over the season. We have seen a wide variety of conditions - as you would expect in the UK - and they have performed admirably in all. They have, as we knew they would, remained consistent and have given the drivers the grip they need to be able to develop their skills and demonstrate the success of the formula."This weekend sees three races; one on Saturday afternoon with the final two races on Sunday, one in the morning and one immediately after the lunch break.
