This definitely wasn't Raffaele Marciello's weekend. The front runner of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship won none of the three races in Zandvoort in the Netherlands and only bagged a meagre ten points. The lead of the Italian has now melted to a mere 9.5 points ahead of Felix Rosenqvist. The Swede turned out to be the big winner on the North Sea dune course and can now entertain hopes of winning the biggest European junior race class with two tour stops left to go.
Felix Rosenqvist arrived in Holland 72.5 points behind the leader but profited from front-runner Raffaele Marciello's pitch-black weekend. In the first race on Saturday the Swede came in second but got all the points since winner Daniil Kvyat from Russia, being a guest driver, wasn't rated. Rosenqvist dominated the following two races and celebrated a perfect weekend by obtaining the maximum number of 75 points possible.
"In the first race I started off on used Hankook tyres and was surprised how well I was able to keep up with Daniil. In the following two races I fully concentrated on the start in order to be in the lead at the first bend. In the course of the race I tried to ration my tyres which worked very well", said the joyous 21-year old Swede who is back on track again now for the championship title.
Overall leader Raffaele Marciello's mood was quite the contrary. In the first rate the 18-year old came in fifth but then collected no points whatsoever in the other two races. Following a poor start, the Italian only finished 16th in the second race. In the last race he hit a crash barrier without third party interference. "Things just weren't going well, same as on the Red Bull Ring in Austria. Otherwise I'm very happy with the season up to now but have to say that if we don't win the championship this year it would be very disappointing indeed", stated Raffaele Marciello in no uncertain terms.
In third place overall is British Alex Lynn who took two third and one second place in Zandvoort. Sven Müller from Bingen is the best German in tenth place.
