Tough evaluation for Carrera Cup GB Scholarship finalist

The four finalists for the 2014/15 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Scholarship Programme completed a rigorous day of evaluation at Silverstone  (Tuesday 21 October) as Ignas Gelzinis, Ryan Ratcliffe, Josh Webster and Ross Wylie battled for the £160,000 award.

The four talented young drivers took part in an intensive evaluation programme at the Porsche Experience Centre as well as driving the 911 GT3 Cup car on the Silverstone National circuit. The selected Scholarship driver will win £80,000 per year towards their 2014 and 2015 Porsche Carrera Cup GB budgets.An expert judging panel, including Porsche factory driver Nick Tandy and current Carrera Cup GB champion and former Scholarship driver Michael Meadows, faced a tough task in selecting just one driver from four very strong candidates.The four finalists were put through panel interviews, media assessment and a challenging programme of fitness testing and all gave an excellent account of themselves. The four finalists were:Ignas Gelzinis: aged 22 from Kaunas, Lithuania2013 season: Renault UK Clio CupRyan Ratcliffe: aged 20 from Llanelli, South Wales2013 season: British GT Championship in GT4 categoryJosh Webster: aged 19 from Stowmarket, Suffolk2013 season: GP3 SeriesRoss Wylie: aged 22 from Dumfries, Scotland2013 season: Volkswagen Scirocco-R CupMarion Barnaby, from the Porsche Cars GB Motor Sport Department, said that the judges’ decision was the toughest so far in the history of the Scholarship programme. “All four drivers were outstanding and all of them would be worthy winners.
