POOLE will celebrate their Elite League title victory with a Civic Reception from the Mayor of Poole next month. Councillor Phillip Eades will welcome the Pirates on November 13 after their aggregate wins over Swindon and Birmingham in the play-offs took them to a fifth championship in the current era. Cllr Eades said: “The success of the team despite injuries to Darcy Ward and Chris Holder is a true testament to the fantastic team spirit that Matt Ford continues to inspire among the riders, and their achievements are a credit to our town. “I look forward to celebrating the achievements of the Poole Pirates with the council staff, Poole Pirates management, promoters, sponsors and of course most importantly the riders themselves.”

PETERBOROUGH owner Rick Frost says he wants to continue working with team manager Ryan Sullivan for as long as possible. The Australian, who previously starred for the Panthers as a rider, made a big impression when he joined the club’s backroom staff mid-season but is due to head home next year after retiring from racing. Frost said: “Ryan is a top man, he was a top rider, he’s Mr Peterborough and his record speaks for itself. He must share a lot of the credit for doing what he’s done. “The riders respond to him, and I don’t know a better team manager. Next year he’s not going back to Australia until later than he thought, and if we are running he will one thousand per cent be team manager for as long as he’s here.”

COVENTRY have added Luke Crang to their asset base after a promising first season in the sport. Crang joined the Brandon club’s National League team in May and collected the Most Improved Average award at their presentation night. Coventry Storm co-boss Laurence Rogers said: “We’ve been talking for quite a while about Luke and just had to iron out a few things. “It was finally agreed before the dinner-dance and to have him as a Coventry asset is a brilliant coup for us because there were a lot of tracks after him.”
