DUDLEY overcame a troubled start to build up a 25-point advantage from the first leg of the National League KO Cup Final against the Isle of Wight. The Heathens trailed 3-8 after failing to provide a finisher in Heat 2 but pulled clear in the second half of the meeting for a 58-33 win, led by skipper Ashley Morris with a paid maximum. Dudley boss Will Pottinger said: “We’re really happy with a 25-point lead. We got off to a bit of a shaky start and it took the lads a ride to get up to speed after three weeks without a meeting. “But they all did brilliantly in the end. It was a great all-round team performance and everyone contributed to a really good win. It puts us in a good position ahead of the second leg, but we’ll still be going to the Isle of Wight looking for the win on the night after winning there twice already this season.”

ISLE of Wight co-boss Chris Hunt is urging supporters to turn out in force for the final track action of the season at the Smallbrook Stadium on Wednesday. Hunt admits his side are big underdogs going into the second leg of the National League KO Cup Final against Dudley, but is still pleased with the efforts of his injury-hit side over the course of the season. He said: “We have to accept that it'll be one of the biggest shocks in the whole sporting world if we are to win the Cup now, but we are going to go out there tonight determined to put on a good show as we've tried to do in all our matches this year and to have fun. “And we would hope there'll be a big crowd there supporting and cheering us on, fully appreciative of our efforts on behalf of this wonderful island of ours since the start of the season back in April, and joining in the fun.”
