Hugely successful one-make saloon car and sportscar specialist Total Control Racing is to expand its operations to include participation in the Ginetta Junior Championship in 2014 it is confirmed today, Tuesday, 5th November, completing the team’s ladder of opportunity with the Leeds marque.Renowned as one of UK motorsport’s premier squads, the Wednesbury outfit has won numerous championship titles over the years in a variety of categories but has enjoyed particular success in recent seasons in the Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup and Ginetta GT5 Challenge.Delighted to now add involvement in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship-supporting Ginetta Junior Championship, TCR will be able to provide a full progression for youngsters fresh to car racing – taking them from Ginetta Junior, through the Ginetta GT5 Challenge and on into the Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup.“We’re probably the most successful team competing with Ginetta at the moment”, said TCR team principal Lee Brookes, “We’re regular race winners and have won championships in the GT Supercup and we’ve had a lot of success in the [GT5] Challenge as well.“The last piece of the jigsaw is to get involved in the Ginetta Juniors and we feel the time is right to add that to what we offer. Nobody else out there has the background we’ve got – since we first came into Ginetta in 2009 it’s been a successful relationship with the brand, we’re looking forward to building on that to add success in Ginetta Junior as well with some young, rookie drivers.”Having won titles in the Renault UK Clio Cup and, now defunct, SEAT Cupra Championship, as well as finishing in the top three in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship in 2003, TCR branched out into Ginetta racing for the first time in 2009 when the then Michelin Ginetta G50 Cup debuted on the BTCC package.Making an instantaneous impact by winning its maiden race in the category with Carl Breeze, the team went on to claim the Team Championship at its first attempt while Breeze concluded the season in the top three of the driver standings. In 2010 Breeze was Vice-Champion and in 2011 he was a mere five points away from taking the championship. Maintaining their place at the forefront of the series, Breeze and TCR won the GT Supercup driver’s crown in 2012 and Breeze was Vice-Champion for a third time this year.In the Ginetta GT5 Challenge, TCR took Mike Robinson to the Vice-Champion’s position in 2012 and has been a consistent front-runner this season – ending the campaign with a memorable double victory for George Gamble on his first weekend in the category.“Whether it’s been in Renault, SEAT, Porsche or, more recently, Ginetta, TCR has always been up there challenging at the front and we’re determined to do the same in Ginetta Junior next year”, added Brookes, “It’s an exciting new chapter for us – we’re keen to hear from any young drivers who are new to racing and looking for the very best preparation and career development.”
