Rivals crushed as Knott storms to PFi Continetal Cup‏

Senior Max newcomer Luke Knott blew the opposition away as he blazed to victory last weekend (3 November), with his RL Racing Department team-mates also enjoying a good day at the Lincolnshire venue.

When it came to the Senior Max final, none of the 31-strong field had a real answer for the youngster’s pace and consistency. Having started from P2 on the front row, Luke dropped to 3rd but hit the front on lap five and once ahead, reeled out a string of fast laps leaving his rivals to fight over the remaining podium places. Such was his dominance that the RL Racing driver took the chequered flag over three seconds clear of the field. In the Mini Max final, Hugo Bentley-Ellis led the second half of the race, but was denied the win just four corners from the finishing line. Jack Martin went from 22nd at the start to 11th with a terrific drive, further highlighting his tremendous development during recent months. Rory Hudson marked his RL Racing Department debut and maiden race in the class with a fine drive to 13th. Fellow Mini Max first-timer Herbie Grout impressed with 5th in the second heat, but an off at the start of the final put-paid to his chances of repeating his earlier impressive performance and he crossed the line in 23rd spot.New signing Will Shaw started the Junior Max final from p4 and was up to 3rd on the second lap. Sadly, a racing incident was deemed to be his fault and the move saw him black-flagged. The always rapid Scot Sandy Mitchell had also been running 4th before moving into 3rd spot. He was pushed back to 4th and was lining up another bid for 3rd but was knocked off the track, dropping him down the order to an eventual 8th place. His fastest-lap some recompense for his sterling efforts that were denied greater glory.

Another new signing, Jordan Baines, had qualified for the main race via the B Final and then thrilled the crowd with a stunning drive. The latest talent to emerge from the Baines karting dynasty started from the back row (having won the repecharge), before carving his way up to 10th.

“It was another great weekend across the board for RL Racing Department,” observed team owner Steve Armstrong, adding “Hugo looked assured of the Mini win and I thought 3rd and 4th in Junior was the least we could expect in Junior. Things didn’t quite go our way but it was total domination in Senior Max. I’d like to say a big ‘Well done’ to all the team’s drivers, especially to new signing Jordan Baines, who narrowly missed out on the club championship by a single point. This is a great team, with great people and together, we’re achieving some great results.”
