Lando Norris battles from 30th to strong finish in Italian Industrial Trophy

ADD Motorsports driver Lando Norris was delighted with his never-say-die attitude in the Italian Industrial Trophy. The Glastonbury racer put on a breathtaking performance to finish fifth in the final in Lonato – after battling back from 30th on the grid.

And he showed it certainly was no fluke, as it was almost a replay of what he had also done in the pre-final. It left the 13-year-old happy with his penultimate performance of the season – and excited about his trip to Bahrain for the World Championships. He said: “It was a really good weekend. I tested a KF2 at the beginning of the week and was getting some of the fastest times - and although we thought it might be difficult to adapt back for the race I did it quicker than we had hoped.

“But to get back to fifth from being at the back of the grid in the final was really good and we left happy with my performance.”Lando qualified third in his group and fifth overall - his first time in the wet for some time.He finished Heat 1 in second place and battled with his teammates to win the second heat.

But it wasn’t until the pre-final and final where he had to show his true skill – overtaking some 50 drivers across both races!Lando started the pre-final in second place and was hit early from behind, sending him into a spin and into the barrier. But from 25th place, he slowly made his way back into the race to finish seventh. However, despite all the hard work, he found himself hit with a 10-second penalty for jumping at the start – despite being pushed by another driver.

Lando started 16th in the final and after overtaking two drivers on the first corner was hit again – leaving him facing the wrong way, in last place and one and a half seconds behind.

But he pushed hard and from 30th place managed to finish fifth – finding the tiniest gap on the last corner to sneak in from sixth.Lando now heads to Bahrain for his final race of the season in the World KFJ Championship, needing a top performance after finishing 22nd in the first round.

He added: “It would have been a totally different weekend if I hadn’t got that penalty, but these things happen.“But to have come back twice like that was really good.“Now it’s onto Bahrain and I’m going to be driving hard for the podium.

“I need things to go my way to finish in a good position, but you never know what will happen.”
