Daniel Lloyd Looking At Variety Of Opportunities For 2014

British racing driver Daniel Lloyd says his desire to try and graduate into the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup next year, which runs as a support series to the FIA Formula One World Championship, has been heightened following an impressive showing in the Porsche International Scholarship.Although pipped to the 200,000 Euro prize fund for a season’s racing in the Supercup by experienced former international single-seater racer Earl Bamber, the Porsche Carrera Cup GB race winner has taken away a huge amount of confidence from the two-day evaluation at Oschersleben in Germany.Huddersfield-based Daniel, the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Scholar for the past two seasons, went head-to-head against seven other top-line racers from Porsche championships across the globe and made a very strong impression on the assembled judges.“It was a great confidence boost to see my lap times were very competitive compared to some of the world’s best Porsche drivers”, said the 21-year-old, “Having the opportunity to drive the new 911 was a fantastic experience, especially with the car being run by Porsche factory engineers.“It was really close actually between all of us taking part and I was really happy with my performance against guys like Earl [Bamber], he’s got loads of experience in single-seaters in things like A1GP and GP2 Asia, as well as racing Porsches in Asia, so I’m happy with the showing I gave.”Daniel added: “It was a massive privilege to represent Porsche Carrera Cup GB in the International Scholarship and I want to say a huge thank you to Marion Barnaby and everyone involved in the British championship for putting me forward, it was an amazing experience.”While remaining part of the Porsche ‘family’ and attempting to graduate into the marque’s flagship championship in 2014 is Daniel’s chief aim, he is realistic enough to know the challenges he faces in terms of raising the required sponsorship. Therefore, he is also looking at a range of other opportunities which have been presented in the world of GT and endurance racing off the back of another strong year in Porsche Carrera Cup GB where he claimed one race win and a total of 10 podiums on his way to fourth in the championship.“Porsche Supercup or another season in Porsche Carrera Cup GB is where I want to be next year ideally”, he added, “It’s all about the budget we can raise, though, so we are looking at different things like GT and sportscars in British and international endurance championships. There are some exciting possibilities, we’ve just got to wait and see what happens over the winter.”
