O'Gara, Palmer, Sofronas Head to Lamborghini Super Trofeo World Final

Following a successful season in the North American premiere of the Blancpain Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series, Global Motorsports Group’s (GMG) Tom O’Gara, Andrew Palmer, and James Sofronas will take part in this weekend’s World Final at the historic Vallelunga circuit near Rome, Italy. The series, which includes championships in North America, Europe, and Asia, hosts an annual World Championship round at the end of the year. Inviting some of the most notable drivers and teams from each continent, the trio of O’Gara, Palmer, and Sofronas will take to the track in their Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 to see how they measure up with some of the best in the world.Tom O’Gara will join the series on the back of his 2013 sportsman category championship in North America. Combining consistency with multiple podium finishes, the Beverly Hills resident ran a very strong 2013 season to not only clinch his own title, but ensure a team championship for GMG as well. O’Gara’s regular co-driver, Parris Mullins, was unable to make the trip due to scheduling conflicts and will be replaced by GMG team principal, James Sofronas.“This weekend’s World Final should be a great experience for James and I,” stated O’Gara. “I’ve had such a great time running the full North American series. Lamborghini has done a terrific job of creating well-run events with some very impressive cars. Combine this with GMG’s ability to run a solid program, and you have a great way to win a championship. Our trip to Italy is the culmination of all that, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how we stack up. It’s a shame Parris couldn’t join us, but it’s a busy time of year for him and it would have been very difficult for him make the European trip.”Running in his own entry will be the sensational newcomer, Andrew Palmer. Palmer impressed the racing community when he drove in his first-ever car race during the series’ fourth round, walking away with both a pole position and victory at Virginia International Raceway. At only 19-years old, Palmer is poised to make an impression at the biggest event of his young career.“This has been a tremendous experience so far,” stated Palmer. “Everyone at GMG has done a great job getting me acquainted with the car quickly, and it paid off well in Virginia. Racing at the World Final is a fantastic opportunity for me, and I’m really hoping to show well.”Finally, having led much of the team’s development during team tests at The Thermal Club, as well as having competed in numerous rounds, James Sofronas will co-drive with O’Gara during the weekend. Having had an incredible 2013 season that has included three wins in the Pirelli World Championship en route to a runner-up finish, the Californian is looking to end the year with yet another highlight.“It’s hard to say no to a chance to race in Italy with these cars,” stated Sofronas. “The World Final is a really well-organized event, and another great sign of Lamborghini’s attention to detail. It should be a fun weekend for sure, I’m anxious to see how we fair!”The World Final will begin tomorrow, November 22, with the second round taking place on Saturday, November 23.Live coverage can be found via Lamborghini’s Squadra Corse website located at squadracorse.lamborghini.com/en/live
