SCUNTHORPE have swooped for Swedish rider Anders Mellgren who will start the 2014 season in the Scorpions’ No.1 position.Promoter Rob Godfrey moved quickly when he discovered Mellgren was not in the plans of Rye House after two years with the Rockets.Godfrey said: “Anders is always a tall scorer around the Eddie Wright Raceway, but he’s good around the tighter tracks as well. He can fly around a wide-open track like Scunthorpe, and also around a tight track like Rye House. He’s good around anywhere.“Anders is a quality act and will start as our No 1. He will form part of a powerful spearhead for the Scorpions.”(SPEEDWAY 2)
WORKINGTON have been rocked by the departure of captain and No.1 Richard Lawson, who has rejected the offer of a team place with his parent club stating he sees his future elsewhere.Lawson says he took his decision in order to discover whether a year away from the Comets will further his career as he targets a one-point increase on his average.Workington owner Laura Morgan said: “We are bitterly disappointed Richard has decided not to come back, but he made that decision. We are really grateful to him for all his hard work at the club as he has been a brilliant skipper, but he will now go out on loan to another club for next season. “However, while this has forced us to re-think our team-building plans, I can promise our supporters that we hope to have a superb replacement for him in the near future.”(SPEEDWAY 3)
