BRITISH Speedway bosses have slammed the decision not to nominate world champion Tai Woffinden for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.
And the sport's management committee are set to put the matter on the agenda for their next meeting when they are expected to make direct contact with the BBC to make their point.
Woffinden became the first British rider to win the title in 13 years, despite suffering a broken collarbone in two of the 12 rounds in the FIM Speedway Grand Prix series.
In addition, he raised over £35,000 for Cancer Research UK with a brilliant cycle ride from his British track, Wolverhampton, to Cardiff for the British Grand Prix - all in memory of his father, former rider Rob who passed away in 2010.British Speedway Chairman Alex Harkess said: "It is a major disappointment not to see Tai nominated and we are extremely annoyed by those members of the panel responsible for selecting the 10 nominees on behalf of the BBC.
"The strength of feeling amongst the sport is immense and I know Tai's world title has captured the imagination of many outside the sport - but not enough to even make the top 10 for Sports Personality of the Year."We will discuss the matter with a view to asking for some justification as to how they overlooked this magnificent achievement and I mean that with all due respect to the other nominees."
