ADD Motorsports driver Oli Norris found the going tough in the World Championships in Bahrain.
The Glastonbury racer couldn’t find the speed needed to compete with the front runners across the weekend.
Although he finished a very respectable 12th on the day and 18th overall in the world, he was hoping for more after a podium in his previous race. And it took the gloss off what has been a productive first season in the KF class.
He said: “It was frustrating really. Most of the season I’ve had the pace but things have gone wrong, but this time I just didn’t have the pace to compete.
“I couldn’t get up to the same speeds I showed in testing and it was just really easy for other drivers to overtake despite getting into some great positions early on.
“I felt I could have had a podium but there was nothing we could do to solve the problems.” Oli was happy to qualify 11th overall but it was during his heats that he really found it hard to get up to his normal speeds. Each time he found a good start was not enough to keep him in the race.He finished 13th in the first heat and after being hit and finding himself back in 25th, came back well to finish 15th in the third.Oli started 15th in the pre final and got into 6th place early on, but again found he didn’t have the pace to sustain a challenge, finishing 11th.
After changing a few things in the final, Oli got off to another great start and moved up to fifth quickly. But again the same problem reared its head and he was forced to defend as much as possible while other drivers overtook. However, speaking after the race, Oli was happy with how the season had gone and is now looking forward to seeing what he can do next year with a year’s experience behind him.
He added: “It was more of a learning curve this season. It was my first year in KF and I did OK, but we hope I can push on from here next year.“It will be about making fewer mistakes as the speed has been there most of the season. “I’m really excited about seeing what we can do.”
