HOPES of the Isle of Wight rejoining the National League for the 2014 season have suffered a setback. The Islanders have been given until the end of January to declare their intention to race, and a recent shareholder’s meeting produced news of possible outside investment. However, talks have confirmed such investment will not be forthcoming and the club’s immediate future will be decided at the next meeting on January 21 – with a major financial investment or alternative viable solution required to compete next season.

RYE House promoter Len Silver has warmly welcomed news of the new consortium at Peterborough running in the Premier League. The Rockets and Panthers have not clashed in the League since 1992, although the Hertfordshire club did achieve a memorable 46-44 away win at the East of England Showground in the short-lived League Cup competition that encompassed both Leagues in 2003.Silver said: “This is the best news we have had since the end of the season. I can foresee some almighty battles in East Anglia in the New Year with the triangle of Ipswich, Peterborough and Rye House, and I can't wait to get it all going!”

STOKE have moved to hand Jon Armstrong a return to the club – having previously represented the Potters at Premier League level. The Loomer Road outfit expect the experienced Armstrong, who rode for Mildenhall this year, to also bring out the best in the younger members of the side, and have thanked his parent club Cradley for their co-operation in the loan deal.Armstrong said: “I’ve always liked Stoke and I am sure that I still have the enthusiasm and vigour to make a useful contribution. “The team plans are taking shape and have a considerable Northern flavour about them and I am glad to be part of that.”(FIXTURE)
