PETERBOROUGH have named British youngsters Joe Jacobs and Oliver Greenwood to take their reserve berths in the coming season.Jacobs joins the Panthers after spending 2013 with Glasgow in the Premier League, whilst Greenwood has a team place at that level for the first time although he did make guest appearances last year.Peterborough co-promoter Trevor Swales said: “We’re very pleased to be giving two young British riders a chance. I know Joe well from seeing him at Mildenhall and I think spending last winter in Australia did him the world of good. His scores in the Premier League were praiseworthy for his first season, and although obviously he still has learning to do I would expect him to improve meeting by meeting.“Oliver is well known by Mick (Horton) from being with Coventry, and I know he’s regarded as a thinking rider. This is his first chance for a full team place in the Premier League and he’s determined to take it.”

SHEFFIELD'S new management team say they can’t wait to get to work. The new consortium, headed by co-promoter David Hoggart have agreed a deal with long-serving owner Neil Machin to take control of the club ahead of the 2014 season with team and track issues high on the agenda.Hoggart said: “Obviously we have to look at putting the team together and we know we have to put the strongest team out we possibly can.“We will be ordering 200-tonnes of new shale for the track and we will also be engaging contractors to work on the drainage down the back straight to sort that situation out. These are exciting times for Sheffield Speedway and we can’t wait for the season to start, although there is obviously a lot of work to do before then.”

SCUNTHORPE promoter Rob Godfrey believes the club’s thriving amateur Winter series could be about to set a record on Saturday.Several riders with senior team places, including 2014 Scorpion Matt Williamson and National League regulars Oliver Greenwood, Liam Carr, Nathan Greaves and Luke Chessell, will be in action at the Eddie Wright Raceway for a bumper programme of races with free admission.Godfrey said: “We are expecting between 80 and 90 riders and over 100 races. I find it hard to believe that there has ever been a meeting with over 100 races before but I’m sure someone will set me right if there has. I just can’t imagine anyone attempting it.“I’m sure we can pull it off. We’ve done over 90 races before and regularly have over 80, so I don’t see it being a problem for our fantastic volunteers. We’ve got a few extra who will help out and we are extremely grateful for everyone’s assistance.”
