Ginetta GT5 Challenge race winner George Gamble and fellow category front-runner Callum Pointon will both remain with leading team Total Control Racing for the 2014 season it is confirmed today, Wednesday, 8th January, as the respected Wednesbury squad eyes a sustained championship bid.Having established itself as a front-running force in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship support series over the past couple of seasons, TCR is delighted to have agreed fresh deals with the talented pairing so early in the New Year and team boss Lee Brookes is confident of challenging for the title.“We’re delighted to have both George and Callum on board again, it’s a fantastic way to start 2014 for TCR”, said Brookes, “I really think we’ll have one of the strongest and best line-ups out there, George will definitely start the season as a championship favourite and Callum should be right up there fighting for podiums as well.“Callum really came on strong last season, he did a fantastic job in his first year and improved massively to become a really consistent front-runner. With a team-mate like George to help push him on, we’re confident he can be a top three regular.”Gamble, formerly a leading light in the Ginetta Junior Championship and a front-runner in the Protyre Formula Renault Winter Series in 2012, made a return to competitive action with TCR last October during the Ginetta GT5 Challenge season finale at Donington Park Grand Prix Circuit.Having been on the racing sidelines for almost an entire year, taking time away to assist his younger brother’s karting career, the Nottingham 17-year-old starred at his ‘home’ track on his Challenge debut and was the dominant force with two wins from two races. Now, with a full campaign confirmed for 2014, Gamble has his sights squarely set on battling for the championship crown.“I’m really looking forward to it, the Challenge is a good championship and the racing is so close”, commented the Epperstone-based driver, “We did that last round at Donington last year with Lee [Brookes] and it went really well, he’s put together a good deal for us and he’s set me the target of trying to win every race! I don’t think we’ll quite manage that, but I’ll give it a good go.“I didn’t do much racing last year as I was helping my brother, he was second in Mini Max in only his first year, so I’m looking forward to being back in for a full season myself. I want to try and win the title and then maybe step-up and do the final round of the G55 [Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup], that’s the plan anyway.”Pointon, who made his car racing debut with TCR in the Ginetta Challenge last year, made huge strides during his maiden season and the Staffordshire youngster is determined to be a podium threat throughout the 2014 campaign.Starting out his motorsport career in Rotax Mini Max Karting, the 19-year-old from Cheddleton finished sixth in the Junior Max class of the Formula Kart Stars Championship in 2010 and was then fourth in the Kartmasters British Grand Prix the following year. Debuting in cars at the beginning of 2013 in the Ginetta Challenge, Pointon ended the year an excellent seventh in the standings.“My first year with TCR was absolutely amazing”, he commented, “We went into it just as a learning year but we ticked all the boxes along the way, had a cracking season and ended up seventh in the championship – we weren’t aiming that high at all when the year started.“I was really happy working with TCR last year and we said to Lee [Brookes] we’d love to run with him again. I’m looking forward to teaming-up with George [Gamble] too, I get on with him really well and we know each other from karting. I think we’ll work together really well, share some data and help push each other. I should be trying to finish in the top three, I’m aiming as high as possible.”Oulton Park International Circuit in Cheshire will host the opening event of the 2014 Ginetta GT5 Challenge season on Saturday, 19th April.
