Lockie gets Aston Martin drive for Daytona 24-hour

British racer Calum Lockie will return to the Rolex 24-hour at Daytona (25/26 January) after concluding a deal to race an Aston Martin V12 Vantage in the GTD category for The Racer’s Group. TRG-AMR is the works team for Aston Martin in North America.Lockie has wanted to return to the Florida classic since tackling the race three times consecutively at the start of the new millennium. “It is hugely exciting to be going back to Daytona 12 years on from when I last raced there,” said the experienced sports and GT racer. “I did Daytona in 2000, 2001 and 2002 and I’ve been trying to get back ever since.” It will be his 17th 24-hour race.As a former Daytona 24 overall winner, The Racer’s Group has an outstanding record of success in this race and across sports car racing. TRG is one of the foremost GT teams in North America and Lockie will race one of the squad’s GT3 specification Aston Martins in the GTD category. “Getting into an Aston Martin GT3 is always going to be great because they are fantastic cars,” said Lockie. “I’ve been contracted as the lead driver to do the qualifying and the start of the race.” Support for the race comes from Ferrari racer David Mason OBE from MacConnal-Mason Gallery, which specialises in fine paintings.
