GT Sport introduces a number of changes into 2014 GT Open

SuperGT class extension and Driver Status system, main noveltiesTechnical and sportive adjustments reflect GT racing evolution

A number of adjustments, both of technical and sportive nature, will be introduced intothe International GT Open as from 2014, with a view to adapt the series to the constantevolution of the GT racing market, better differentiate the two categories (SuperGT andGTS), and ultimately, offer a more attractive product to competitors.

The main changes include an extended definition of the SuperGT class, which will nowallow top GT3 cars with some adaptations, and a categorization of drivers, which will nowbe divided in two groups, Professional and Amateur. Driver line-ups containing twoprofessionals will be automatically included in the Super GT category.

The changes entry into force as from the forthcoming Winter Series, which will be a goodground to test (and, if necessary, fine-tune) the measures ahead of the start of the officialseason.

“We have been giving thorough thought to these measures and taken the advice of ourcompetitors”, explains Jesús Pareja, CEO of GT Sport, “and I think we have come up witha good package that takes into account the evolution of the GT cars market and helpsgiving each category a clearer identity. I think this will result in a more balanced,updated and attractive situation for the championship”.

TECHNICAL RULES

SUPER GTAre eligible the following cars:· GT2 FIA : Cars homologated by FIA as GT2· GT3 FIA : Cars homologated by FIA as GT3. Following modifications are permitted :• Up to three final gearbox drives• Up to four different sets of suspension springs (front / rear)• Free damping laws (same GT3 hardware)• Height to the ground will be modified· GT2 / ACO : Cars homologated by ACO as GT2/E· GT2 OPEN : Cars assimilated to GT2 with national homologationA BoP list will be issued by the Technical Commission to balance the performance of cars.Minimum weight, restrictor size and height to the ground will be taken into account toestablish the BoP.

SPORTIVE RULES

Drivers StatusAs from 2014, the Organizing Committee shall establish a status of drivers entered in theInternational GT Open. To determine this status, the following criteria, will be taken intoaccount:

• FIA Drivers status• Driver’s records• Results obtained in the International GT Open

Driver status may be modified along the season based on the obtained results. Two statusare created.

Professional Drivers: those drivers with platinum or gold FIA status and those drivers who,based on their performances, are considered ‘professional’ by the Organizing Committee

Amateur Drivers: those drivers with silver or bronze FIA status and those drivers who,based on their performances, are considered ‘amateur’ by the Organizing Committee.Additionally, the permitted driver combinations will also be taken into account for each ofthe categories in the International GT Open.
