European Formula 3 Open competitor Sean Walkinshaw is to get his pre-season schedule properly underway at Jerez in Spain this coming Friday, 14th February, when he and his rivals gather for the first officially timed collective test outing of 2014.With a total of eight, 60-minute sessions across two days, four on Friday and then four more on Saturday, 15th February, the Chipping Norton driver is relishing the prospect of being back behind the wheel of his Campos Racing engineered Dallara F312.Following a strong maiden season in Formula 3 in the pan-European category last year, where he chalked-up two podium finishes in the Copa Class driving a Dallara F308, Sean is now all set for his first year in the headline European F3 Open category in the latest generation car.Embarking on several productive tests in the F312 car towards the tail end of last year with Campos, the 20-year-old’s upcoming run at Jerez will be the first with a more powerful engine bolted into the single-seater.“I’m really looking forward to being back in the car and working with the Campos guys again”, said Sean, “It’s going to be a completely new experience, though, with the new engine and there’s still a lot to learn about the car in general with it being my first year in the F312.“It’s also going to be the first time all of the drivers can get a look at each other, see the new drivers who are coming into the championship this season and form an idea of where we are all. We need to try and make the two days in Jerez as productive as we can and carry on the good progress we made in testing before the New Year.”Following on from this weekend’s testing, Sean and the rest of the European F3 Open contingent will prepare for the opening round of the 2014 Winter Series which will take place at Paul Ricard HTTT in southern France on Saturday, 1st March. Round two will then follow on Saturday, 15th March, at the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain. The Winter Series precedes the main championship season which will commence on 3rd/4th May at the Nurburgring in Germany.
