Ahead of today’s official announcement by the ACO of entrants for the European Le Mans Series, Gulf Racing is delighted to announce a double attack on the GTE championship.Team Co-owner Roald Goethe whose car narrowly missed the GT-AM championship title last year in the WEC will return to the Gulf Racing team to drive his Aston Martin GTE.Goethe said “I’m really excited to be back racing with my guys in the ELMS, with the Aston having the latest upgrade package I’m sure we will be in contention in what I think will be a very competitive Championship this year.”Returning to the GTE class after two years of GT3 racing Mike Wainwright enters the championship with new machinery and as a customer of Porsche Motorsport.Wainwright who has driven a McLaren MP4-12C in the Blancpain Endurance Series for the past two seasons said “I’m really looking forward to returning to racing in the GTE class, when we first discussed the Porsche project and went to Stuttgart it was clear to me that whilst changing marques shouldn’t be done lightly we were going to be more than taken care of by Porsche. “The last time a Porsche carried the Gulf logo was over 30 years ago, Wainwright added “It’s exciting for sure. But racing is about results and this is my main focus for the season ahead, Roalds Aston will be quick as it proved last season in WEC and am sure others will have pace also, it’s going to be a very interesting season.”Goethe joked “A German driving a British marque and a Brit driving a German one, so much for patriotism!”Team Manager Matt Beers added “It really does promise to be a great season in the ELMS, it is always challenging to run two different marques in one garage but we have a team that is capable and I’m sure it will be of great interest to see the differences in the cars on level ground.”
