This season’s British champion will be handed a dream ticket to the British FIM Speedway Grand Prix as the wild card for round seven of the FIM Speedway Grand Prix series (SGP).
World Champion Tai Woffinden dons the SGP No.1 race jacket on home soil for the first time at the Millennium Stadium on July 12, and is joined in the meeting by Chris Harris, who re-qualified for the World Championship after a year out.
There will also be a third Brit in the meeting – the winner of the British Championship Final at Wolverhampton on June 16, which will be televised live on Sky Sports.
Should Woffinden retain his British title or Harris triumph, the highest-placed non-SGP rider will get the Cardiff call.
BSI Speedway managing director Paul Bellamy can’t wait to see the best of British battle for a national glory and a place in world speedway’s biggest meeting.
He said: “There are already two Brits in the field at Cardiff and the chance to join Tai and Chris in the British SGP certainly raises the stakes in this year’s British Final.
“We have a number of talented Brits coming through the system and they will be determined to win their chance at mixing it with the sport’s elite.
“Whoever clinches the wild card place, one thing is guaranteed – a rapturous welcome from the thousands of British fans who make the Grand Prix at the Millennium Stadium extra special.”
British Speedway Promoters Association chairman Alex Harkess said: “If becoming British champion wasn’t a big enough prize, the opportunity to earn a place in the British SGP gives the British Final an extra edge.
“It is always a fiercely-contested meeting and I’m sure there will be 16 riders battling hard for a place in Cardiff, and ultimately the chance to prove themselves and make an impact at the highest level.”
