SWINDON have confirmed they will host Poole in the first leg of the Elite Shield - as the top-flight winners of the past two seasons go head-to-head.The Blunsdon clash will take place on Thursday March 27, with the Robins electing to open up with a team event the day before their opening Elite League match at Lakeside. They have put back the Bob Kilby Memorial individual, previously scheduled for March 30, to later in the season.Swindon boss Alun Rossiter said: “Bringing Poole here in the Elite Shield means we can put our full team on-track in a competitive fixture, and that’s important with a league match the next evening. “I know Lakeside is a totally different track but early in the year racing laps are vital - and after beating Poole in the Shield last season, it’s a trophy we are keen to hang on to.”

BELLE Vue’s proud history is to be celebrated in a major local exhibition this month.The Manchester Histories Festival, which runs from March 21-30, includes over 160 events and activities, including ‘Belle Vue: Showground of the World’ which will feature numerous exhibits of Aces memorabilia and archive film, as well as a look ahead to the club’s future.Co-promoter Chris Morton said: “Although I spent the majority of my racing career with the Aces, my memories of Belle Vue go back to being a six-year-old child and visiting the zoo and fairground with my family. “It’s these sort of memories that have inspired myself, David Gordon and George Carswell to continuethe fight to keep the histories of Belle Vue alive. I am also very proud that Belle Vue Aces are the last remaining part of what was Belle Vue, and this project comes just ahead of the planned new purpose-built stadium at Belle Vue Sports Village.”

BERWICK team and track manager Ian Rae has received local recognition with a Service to Sport Award for his work with the Bandits over the last 25 years.Rae was honoured during the Berwick & District Club Forum’s annual Sports Awards dinner at Berwick Rugby club.Promoter Dennis McCleary said: “Ian was aware he was nominated for something, but not what it was.“In truth there are no nominations for the Service to Sport award, just an outright winner – so to say he was surprised is an understatement! It is a fine award to him and the Bandits, and well deserved.”(FIXTURES)
