Markus Pommer aims at winning German ATS Formula 3 Cup title

Team Lotus-Motopark signed their driver with whom they want to win the 2014 German ATS Formula 3 Cup Markus Pommer, from Heilbronn in the south of Germany, will spearhead the team’s title assault. He completes the driver line-up of the Oschersleben-based talent factory. In addition to Markus Pommer, Dutchman Indy Dontje, Columbian Andrés Méndez and Nabil Jeffri from Kuala Lumpur will battle for points for the team. The 20-year also participated in the 2013 ATS Formula 3 Cup.

The 23-year-old from Heilbronn has several years of experience in Formula 3 racing under his belt. “He was originally supposed to contest GP3 with us,” says Team Principal Rumfpkeil. But following the death of our partner Igor Mazepa, the attitude of his heirs towards racing changed. We had to pull the plug on our GP3 and GP2 programs. Instead we decided together with Markus Pommer to add another Formula 3 season to his roster.”

The gifted Swabian has already got three successful seasons of F3 racing under his belt. He began his foray into the class with Team Motopark back in 2009. Having finished second in the European Formula Two Championship in 2012, he tried his luck in Porsche Supercup last year, only to return to single seaters this year. He will be doubling up his domestic F3 program with a start in the international AutoGP series. And he is regarded as one of the title favourites in either championship.

Rumpfkeil praises Pommer’s great car control as well as his hard-working, dedicated and concentrated work attitude, which he calls “extremely focussed”. This had already proven successful in pre-season testing, where Pommer clocked some impressive and promising lap times.

The young driver himself is brimming with confidence following his return to Team Lotus-Motopark. “No doubt – this year, I want to win the title,” he stresses. “I’ve got a vast amount of experience in open-wheel racing – and I’m driving for the reigning champions. I’ve got to know the people of Team Lotus-Motopark very well during my first stint there. We got along very well both from a human point of view as well as in terms of our general attitude towards racing and professionalism. When I returned, we gelled immediately and created a very special spirit. We should be able to build on our old foundations in no time.”

The ATS Formula 3 Cup will kick off its 39th season on Friday, April 25th. Live timing and a live stream will be available worldwide. In addition, TV stations Sport 1 and Kabel 1 will broadcast highlights of the racing weekends a few days later.
