Renault UK Clio Cup Championship Leader Morgan Set For Eurocup Clio Debut

Courier Connections Renault UK Clio Cup championship leader Alex Morgan (Reading) will make a return to European racing this weekend, 26th/27th April, after confirming his entry in the opening two rounds of the 2014 Eurocup Clio series at Motorland Aragon in Spain with SV Racing.

The 27-year-old Welshman, who prior to a four year break in his motorsport career competed in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 series in 2008, is relishing the opportunity to once again take on some of the best drivers from the continent – albeit this time in saloon cars rather than single-seaters.

Equally, Morgan cannot wait to renew his on-track rivalry from last year with reigning Eurocup Clio and Renault UK Clio Cup Champion Josh Files (Norwich) who will be defending his European title with Team Pyro.

“It’s all a bit of an unknown at the moment, but I’m looking forward to locking horns with Josh Files once again having raced against him throughout 2013”, said Morgan, “He’s my only target as he won last year’s Eurocup title, has done a lot of preparation and will undoubtedly be the number one contender once again.”

SV Racing travels to Motorland Aragon on the crest of a wave after a sensational weekend in the UK championship at Donington Park this past weekend, 19th/20th April. As well as seeing Josh Cook (Bath) claim both race wins and both Graduate Cup class victories, in the second encounter Cook led an SV Racing one-two-three-four ahead of Ash Hand, Morgan and Ant Whorton-Eales.

With Eurocup Clio offering an entirely fresh challenge for the Cheshire squad, team principal Danny Buxton remains confident Morgan will be a genuine front-runner from the outset: “It would be great to challenge for podiums, but top six finishes in the points would be a good place to start. You can’t underestimate the quality of the field – we have to be mindful and respectful of that.”

Eurocup Clio is, of course, part of the pan-European ‘World Series by Renault’ package which in 2014 is celebrating its 10th anniversary season. In addition to the Clio Cup action, the weekend’s event also includes races for Eurocup Formula 2.0 and the blue riband Formula Renault 3.5 Series.

Delayed as-live coverage of Eurocup Clio race one will be broadcast in the UK on Motors TV on Saturday, 26th April, at 21.00. On Sunday, 27th April, round two will be screened live at 14.30.

The Courier Connections Renault UK Clio Cup is additionally supported by ELF, Performance Friction, WP Racing and official tyre supplier Dunlop.
