AMOC Racing, Pre-War Raiders Head For Oulton Park

Cheshire’s popular Oulton Park circuit hosts the second race meeting of 2014 organised by Aston Club Racing in just a few weeks time and with the addition of a Pre-War sports car race to the varied schedule, it is set to be another spectacular day of club racing.

A mass of sports cars hailing from the carefree era of the 1920s and 1930s will take to the track on Saturday 10 May, emulating their forbearers success at Le Mans and Brooklands. The home ‘marque’, Aston Martin has a strong representation that will be challenged by Bentley, Talbot, Riley and Lagonda raiders. The Pre-War Team Challenge will be further boosted at Oulton Park by cars from the Vintage Sports Car Club’s ‘Owner Driver Mechanic’ Series.

The Oulton Park event also features seven races guaranteed to give spectators a memorable day’s competition, thanks to the wide variety of machinery that will be driven at the limit. Kevin Norville is set to dominate the AMOC Intermarque Championship in his 2013 Aston Martin GT4, (the youngest of six decades of racing history that will feature), if he can keep the Ferrari challengers in 355, 456 GT and 550 Maranello at bay. Peter Snowdon is favourite for another “Innes Ireland Cup” win in his Lightweight Jaguar E-Type following success in the inaugural contest at Silverstone last month. Robert Bremner is fully loaded with his 1964 AC Cobra and the presence of Richard Squire’s Ford Mustang and the Ford Shelby 350 GT of Jeremy Ford will ensure that this endurance race for Pre ’66 GT and Touring Cars will be a mean contest.

Two races from the Historic Racing Driver’s Club bring an era of nostalgia back to Oulton Park as ‘tin-tops’ from the 1950s and 60s evoke memories of the golden era when your marques and models of all shapes and sizes took to the stage. The eclectic grid features family favourites such as Austin A40s, Ford Anglia’s pitched against more exotic Lotus Cortinas, TVR Griffith and Ford Galaxie.

“Equipe”GTS race features the ultra competitive Triumph TR4, MG B and Austin-Healey; and the 1950s Sports Car race sees many of Coventry’s finest examples represented by Jaguar XK120, XK140 and XK150 contesting the Vredestein Jaguar Enthusiasts Club Jaguar XK Challenge.

Tickets are available for £10 per person in advance or £14 on the gate, children aged 13 and under FREE. Discounts are available to Aston Martin Owners Club members who are also invited to participate in a track parade during the lunch break. Practice gets underway at 08.30am with the first race, ‘Historic Racing Drivers Club’ Allstars from 12.10pm followed by seven races that run until after approximately 6.15pm.
